OFFER: Editing/Writing help

Hey all,

This is an offer to assist anyone in need of help with their writing/re-writing quests or other text for the game. I have several years of professional editing experience and would like to help if anyone needs something like this. I'm not sure how many modders are out there doing a lot of writing, but if you are and you want your prose to shine, go ahead and give me a shout. (shout... heh heh, couldn't resist)

Please note I said "help". My real skill is in making what someone else wrote even better, not writing from scratch. Just send me your rough drafts and I can polish them as well as provide any stylistic feedback you may want.

This is a serious offer, I'll provide my email address to those that are interested.

Now if only we could get some decent voice actors the modding community could make quests that blow the vanilla quests out of the water. I don't know enough about what can/can't be modded, but I'd love to help make some thrilling quests that DON'T involve talking to person A, going to dungeon B, getting item C, then going back to person A.

Ok so maybe this is a request. Can someone out there make new quests, revamp the vanilla quests, and then voice it all? lol

I am an actor with a BFA from Cornish College (BFA Acting,Directing,Playwrighting). I am very skilled at writing believeable dialogue and have coordinated multiple project online through Librivox. I'd be interested in helping modders with writing, plotting, dialogue and voice over work as well. Any interested modders can go to Librovox and have a listen. Picture of Dorian Gray and A Modest Proposals are solo works, or you can hear my work as the title role in Hamlet, Edmund in King Lear or as Earnest in Oscar Wilde's Importance of Being Earnest.

My weakness? Coding and editing...

Err, is this like an offer thread or something? If it is then I'm "offering" all hopeful writers a chance to write for my website, gameobserver.com! Come one, come all!

Perfect fit gahnzz, impressive credentials. Now we have two. I can offer my humble editing, plot analysis, development, a little writing, and just generally give it a go and try to have some fun too.

Still need a modder with a lot of time on their hands....

Can't help you sagered2244, my advice would be to be happy with the level of enchanting you have, it's ok to be good enough sometimes. You'll get there eventually, through patience and exploration. Quest on my friend.

I humbly submit this quest idea, which I thought of while in the shower over 20 minutes. I take long showers. Not sure why Bethesda couldn't come up with better ideas during the months of development time it had.... Mine is raw, but better than 90% of what I've seen so far. Not to totally knock it. It's fun, but could be extra fun, like this:

The Client

You're walking down the street in any random Skyrim town when you notice a Bosmer running right past you, bumping you in fact, and then continuing through town and out past the gates. You may not even have noticed, but you ignore it until someone on the street comes up to you and initiates a conversation with you. They act hurried and ask if you noticed that little dude that totally jacked you and ran out of town.

You - "Why, what do you ever mean he "jacked" me Skyrim peasant?"

Peasant - "You didn't notice your equipped weapon was gone? That totally awesome weapon you spent like 60 minutes methodically going through that ancient ruin to find? That one? Oh yeah, and he took most of your other good weapons too, if not all of them."

You - "What the?" (searches inventory, panicked)

Peasant - "So... good luck with that. Bye."

If you do a little investigating and talk to beggars around town they'll point you in the direction of the nearest town in the general direction they went. Or you could just go out on your own and try to find them. One way or another you're pointed to the thief and track them down in some dingy tavern getting sloshed. If you talk to locals to track him, you'll learn he's a talented up and coming pickpocket for hire.

You - "Where's my swords and stuff, yo?"

Thief - "Be more specific please, I steal from a lot of people."

You - "I'm the Dragonborn, you stole my weapons."

Thief - "Oh yeah.... I sold those."

Here you get the choice to kill him in cold blood in front of witnesses, and you'll get a note with incriminating evidence. If you try to pickpocket you won't find it, too easy. Otherwise he informs you that he'll squeal on his buyer for no less than 20,000 gold. That or kill him and get the bounty. He needs that much to get to a safe place far away and lay low forever.

Problem is, his client is the Jarl of Winterhold.

Winterhold isn't exactly doing so well, and the Jarl needs money to rebuild, something neither faction in the civil war seems interested in giving him. So he needed to look elsewhere. It was all for the good of Winterhold at first. His sister Evonia knew a few contacts among local bandits and could fence hot items for him to build up the local coffers. She had been doing it for months until you walked into a random tower/dungeon/keep and found a nest of bandits. At the time you thought it was odd that among all the random unnamed thugs there was someone named Evonia that you assumed was also a bandit and killed.

The Jarl found out and had been hunting you for a while. He paid the pickpocket to steal your weapons. The thief sold your primary weapon to the Jarl, but the rest were sold off to other buyers that you'll have to track down later. In the meantime, the Jarl has you, weaponless (?), in his private quarters, with his men slowly closing in from the shadows.
