machuidel
No. The smoke and the Skyrim logo should be much darker. When I turn up the brightness / contrast settings I get exactly the same problems (banding etc.) as you have. That is why I suspected that to be the issue. Banding will show up because all color values are being increased. Difference betwreen grays will become more visible and all brighter colors clamp to their upper limits. As you are using "realistic lighting without post-processing", your indoor scenes look too bright. Entirely uninstall Skyrim, make sure all content gets deleted (of course backup your save games). This to make sure there are no leftovers from any mods. Then reinstall and try again. Edited January 8, 2012 by machuidel

It didn't change the problem at all. Here's an updated screen shot. All mods are off.http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/jerseygrl33458/TESV2012-01-0809-39-52-46.png I think I mentioned before that my friend is having the same issue and he hasn't installed any mods at all. I'm pretty sure I've always had this problem because I remember the smoke screen always looking like that. I will uninstall Skyrim again (completely this time), but I really don't think that's gonna solve it. :( I also messed around with the gamma settings and that didn't help. EDIT: I went into my monitors advanced settings and I changed 32 bit color to 16 bit, which was a very noticeable change on my desktop and everywhere. Then I loaded Skyrim and it looks exactly the same. I'm convinced that skyrim is running in 16 bit color. Gabbemaster
I have the exact same problem with my 2 ATI Radeon HD 4870 crossfire setup. Anyone found any solutions yet?
Gabbemaster
I have now tried to update my drivers, change the settings and reinstall the game. It actually helped with one problem not mentioned here that I also had: Getting sparkling white specular pixels around objects (most noticable on trees and plants). But it didn't help with this threads mentioned problem.
