West Nevada

Hello there guys.

I was looking for some expansion mods for Fallout and found a few that adds caves, sewers, tunnels etc. Some are exterior areas surely but they did not make me interested at all. So I was planning to make my own mod which turned out to be a disaster without any skill or knowledge how to do it! My caves lost the midsections that I built long time ago which did not make any sense and I tried to duplicate some of the exterior areas to make my own but had no idea about the blue boxes and circles that went through the space...

Also tried the tutorial which of course lost me at step 3.

So, I was hoping if anyone else would be interested of a basic expansion of the New Vegas atmosphere, that does not move from the Mojave by a lot.

The picture below is the location guide of West Nevada. The big circles are the general area, which are circled around by blocking buildings or mountains to limit the space that this idea has. The areas after Washoe Lake cave would be more vast, and you could see the big RENO sign/billboard/welcome gate thingie in the horizon.

Warning, it is a big picture taken from Google maps, just to let you know where the locations should be. The locations would not look like they do in Google maps. The required DLCs should include Lonesome Road for some high buildings and tunnelers and Dead Money for ghosts.

New Reno story

The courier enters the New Vegas district. A strange radio signal is found on the Pip-Boy. Something that is not broadcasted anywhere in the Mojave desert and it's pointing to North-West. On the entrance Courier will find a voice recording.

Diary casette 1 - Entrance of Mojave Cave:

Again the strange radio signal I've never heard before. The others couldn't find it but my pip-boy did. They said it's broken, said that there's nothing out there. How could that be? The signal is getting stronger the closer I get to this cave. I'm going to go inside, if you find this, where ever this cave might lead, I'll leave my next steps at the source of this signal.

Diary casette 2 - After Mojave Cave:

Sorry about the deathclaw, I had to trap her inside since the moment I exit the cave, that thing was waiting for me outside. I think it's a loner, so no need to worry for more of them. The radio signal is stronger now, much stronger. I can hear words, music. There's someone out there. If you wish to follow, I've gone north to the lake you'll see in the horizon. I'll help you in any way I can.

Diary Casette 3 - Washoe Lake Park:

I'm hurt... damn bandits shot me to the gut and I'm bleeding to death here... I... just wanted to find it... I don't have much time left. Listen carefully... The signal... over the mountains... it's covering another transmission under it. You won't hear it without closing the one over it. Find the station... and close it... Find the secret... listen to it.

Once reached the VCA Radio station, Courier encounters a mafia family Bishops waiting for him/her. You won't be able to shut down the signal without helping Bishops first. They were the biggest mafia family in New Reno back in the days, but being overthrown by the new family Van Graffs. Now, with supreme weaponry of energy weapons, Van Graffs call the shots in New Reno.

Bishops are missing intel, weaponry, manpower and generally even the plan. They have no resources as everything is owned by the other families. Others pledge their loyalty to the Van Graffs now, only Bishop defies them.

Salvatores have given up on the whole mafia business and have retreated outside New Reno. The Salvatore High School serves as their main building, teaching new borns how the world works, doing little trading business on the side and nothing else. Rumor is that they are seizing Wright alcohol caravans and selling them instead.

Wrights have taken over the liquor business of Bishops and prostitution of Mordinos, however, as in the historic events one of the sons of Mr. Wright died from a drug overdose, they have let Mordinos handle the drug business. They are also the closest family to Van Graffs, as they benefit from the alliance by a great deal, keeping the NCR at bay.

Mordinos as specified above, takes care of the drug business. They are supplying Wrights pharmacy on the west side, and junkies on the virgin street. They are also the bouncers of New Reno, checking everyone who wishes to enter the city. It is told that Mordinos have something up in their sleeve and are planning to overtake the city sooner or later.

However, their plans are to become to an end with Courier entering the scene. Highly underestimated, his/her job is to throw all the families off their positions and let Bishop reclaim the city, giving him/her the opportunity to find out what the hidden radio transmission specifies.

As it turns out, things are not going according to plan and he/she is betrayed by Bishop, leaving him/her a choice: Leave the secret and never return to New Reno, or wipe out the mob families and take over the city.

Once the main quest is completed, player may go back to the radio station and disable the signal blocking the real one and find the pass code that is needed to open the Dark Vault hidden in New Reno.

So, what do you think? I'm unable to do this but would be happy to help in anyway possible. I could make textures or voice acting.

Looks cool and like a lot of work.

Btw, vaults seem to go in numeric order from west to east (i.e. Vault 3 in Nevada, 101 in DC), so I doubt Vault99, 72, etc. would be in western Nevada.

Thanks guys for feedback, yes it is massive project and all I can say is, you guys are my best chance.

Regarding the vaults, the reason I chose these numbers is because there is zero information about them. So I can freely choose what was the project in them. I know it's a little randomly selected. I guess the numbers can change but have to be unknown vaults.

Vault 3 is in Mojave, Vault 8 in Nevada, Vault 6 in Washington. So I guess there can be some randomness in place.

I wish I had the skills to start to do something!!

  1. The Great Beyond is widely considered to be a planet in deep space
  2. You should base New Reno on the NCR ending of Fallout 2

1. Yes may as well be like in the other mod where people are doing Mars, however those rockets seemed to me to be just for show and not actually be able to fly to space. Those thrust control modules would've probably be only to prevent the rocket to crash on someplace where people live. As gas price went into millions, I don't know how much gas they could have store away to launch three rockets into space! That's a lot.

2. I want New Reno to be under control of the gangs and mafia, just like old times. NCR wouldn't join New Reno because of Van Graffs and Wrights holding it. They need eachother to do this, putting aside their differences, but not meaning a full alliance.

Bishops were "exiled" so NCR definitely wouldn't be part of New Reno until Bishops get back in power. Didn't think of that until now, that could be one reason why they want to get back... hmm.

Just something I'd like to add: Rockets don't use gas or petroleum as fuel, instead they use liquid oxygen, alcohol, or hydrogen as fuel, so the scaresity of gas would not affect them.
