ENB settings

Since I have just started playing any kind of Elder Scrolls Game could anyone please explain / or give a brief description of what replacing your ENB settings do?

I am aware that imputing any kind of mod that is related to overwriting the vanilla settings will change the visuals of skyrim, however I get a massive fps difference. Is there any kind of way to have your fps / performance become better when using any kind of ENB changing mods?

My computers specs are:

Intel Core i5-480M 2.66GHz with Turbo Boost up to 2.93GHz

NVIDIA GeForce GT 425 Up to 2747MB TurboCache

4GB DDR3 Memory

Hopefully that helps some of you.

Some answers I have thought of myself but yet to try are:

upgrading my computer

Installing more RAM

Uninstalling all my other mods and seeing if running any kind of ENB settings on a vanilla skyrim would work

Thanks to anybody who can help me in any way possible!

Try turning off Ambient Occlusion:

UseOcclusions=false

Or, bumping it down to Quality instead of High Quality.
