MajLagSpike
Iv created some newer better textures for the mines around Skyrim, they look the part but they also look very 2d. Im new to modding but get the idea that its the colours in the minedoor01_n.dds - for example say how much light can touch the original minedoor01_n.dds and give it that 3d affect on a 2d object. So my question is how can I create my new _n file? I'm using Photoshop and GIMP2 but am unable to find any filters that do the job..
ishmaeltheforsaken
Use NVidia's normal map plugin.

Perraine
You'll need to play around with the texture a little to get the right effect, the normal map plugin basically uses shades of grey to determine 'height' sometimes a 'groove' is dark and a 'bump' is light on the texture so this works ok for the normal map, but not always, so you may need to do some creative recolouring to get the right 'heights' for various parts. Also make use of layers and layer filters, copy the current "normalised' layer and paste as a new layer then play around with sharpening and/or blurring the new layer, then change the filter method to overlay/dissolve lighten/darken/screen ... as well as the layer transparency to get different effects. There is a tutorial on Youtube, although it's for gimp, the principals are the same no matter what program you are using
