A genuine but GOOD list of ideas... (by Greytale)

I might have a kink on the arrows. Does anybody know if the arrows are treated as fully physical objects in real time, or only in slow motion or what. If the arrows are like bullets in a fps then there may be some trouble deflecting them, the bullets only exist at the destination.

Firstly... @Sagenth... hmm, I am pretty darn sure that they are objects, even though they travel fast. I may be wrong, but they behave like every other object in Skyrim when you pick it up, move it, drop it, etc.

@ALL...

You know what... I just looked at *ALL* the INSANE requests (not just on my silly little thread here)... I mean ALL of them. There are TONS!!

Personally... I would love to see a list all conglomerated into one giant list--even IF that list doesn't necessarily "have everyone's vote"...

Speaking of which--hmm... not a bad idea... maybe a good move for the NexusForum "mod requests" would be to do a poll, listing as many ideas as possible for mods... then see how many get actual votes... and modders could see what "the people want" and what mods are not as wanted/not-so-popular...

That said... wow... already, you folks who have responded have brought up some GREAT ideas!! If you're cool with it... I'd love to edit the original post, credit you guys, and simply... you know... add to the list! Who knows. Maybe one day there WILL be a sort of "de facto" list, with literally hundreds of great ideas. :)

** EDIT ** --- Edited my original post to reflect a ton more ideas (still just "my own" right now). Also, numbered 'em in case people want to just start a post saying: "Ok, regarding #4... this is stupid b/c..." or... "Hey, why don't you add ______ to #21?? Makes sense--the entire idea is just this overall concept here: blah, blah ____ etc."

Hope you guys are enjoying!! :)

P.S. I'm trying to hit upon general CONCEPTS that convey a lot all at once... not just simple stuff like: "Well gee, why can't my hair have dreadlocks" or "why can't I have one eye green & the other blue" or even anything to do with "I want better graphics"...

Reasons for this are obvious:

A) if the idea is overly-simplistic... it's probably already on skyrimnexus. Trust me. I now have WELL OVER 150 MODS plugged into my version of Skyrim... and so if you're just looking for transparent glass armor, or longer arrows... those mods ARE there...

B) if the idea is "too personal", such as wanting a super saiyan, over 9000, death-eater falcon punch attack... you're probably not going to see a lot of others on that band wagon... nor will that mod ever get done...

C) if the idea is overly-COMPLEX... it's probably not worth a modder's time to (for example) completely re-build the entire city of Markarth. Although SOMEone might do that... I don't want to build a list of completely off-the-wall expectations. Most of the requests I'm making... are actually pretty easy! Certainly conceptually... and HOPEFULLY, programming-wise.

Anyhow... hope everyone likes the way this list is going!! :)

Added a few more to the list... although with all the posts on the Skyrim Mod Requests thread (some of which are actually already done, people just don't look on skyrimnexus and so forth)...

...it's hard to say where ideas are overlapping, where ideas are already done, which are in-progress, which need the CK, etc. etc.

Anyhow... here's hoping there are ways to make one big checklist of ideas!

I like most of these ideas. A note on the spiked-shield one, there's actually one in the game (though it's not impressive at all for the level most probably encounter it at), so there should a working mechanic for effect upon shield bashing, idk about how it could be expanded on in the CK, as I haven't used Oblivion's. You know... it's funny--shortly after I yapped about spiked shields in my post, I went back to playing Skyrim. I stumbled upon a Dwemer ruin, but was also being attacked by a bunch of necromantic freaks or something. Somehow, I got shoved/spelled/launched INSIDE a Dwarven/Dwemer gate/prison looking thing that I'd normally need to EXIT... but anyhow... I figured before TCL'ing it to clip back through the gate... ... [QUICKSAVE] hmm, let's CHECK IT OUT! :) I went inside, hahahah...

Well, I found myself clearly at "the end" of what appeared to be some weird short adventure... and I knew I'd broken it by being there. After killing these two characters who were there--talking about SOMEthing I didn't quite catch--the girl of the pair had a... Targe of the Blooded on her! LOL

Granted, I knew I had broken the quest (severely) by entering the Dwemer ruin "backwards"... thanks to getting... you know... magically shoved through a gate, so I didn't save a game at that point... but I saw that--YES--the properties of a spiked shield DO exist. :)

So yup, you're right, GisleAune... this is grounds for MANY spiked shields to exist! Especially USEFUL ones, possibly ones that cause more % chance to stun/stagger... or perhaps even bleeding damage. :)

Another thing with the flying objects suggestion: the pots and stuff should shatter.

Amen to THAT!!! Great idea, I totally agree 100%. And it wouldn't be THAT tough, either. I think I have a # in my list there that deals with such things on a greater level... such as things that can burn--could "destroy" into appropriate rubble. For example, wood chairs could become... well firewood? Probably an entirely different object/texture, but... hey... at least it could allow a "cycling" of the objects too...

For example, if you have a chair, and it gets set on fire... it burns, blackens, and eventually "pops" into charred wooden debris. After a short time, fire effect = done... what's left is "harvestable" wood. If you leave it... chair never respawns--it stays as burnt wood. If you DO take the charred wood... chair can "come back" in due time.

This would also allow people to enjoy going "hogwild" to destroy a bar or whatever... but in due time, it would get "reset", so... if any quests were DEPENDENT on that bar being there (let's say "Fiona" needs to sit in a chair you burnt before leading you on to quest X)... well... you gotta WAIT, but...

...that bar stool will be BACK!! :)

Speaking of bars... why in BLOODY WORLD DOES EVERY BAR IN SKYRIM LOOK THE SAME?!?!?!? Like even THREE "types"?!?!? THAT'S TOO MANY!??!? Wow... maybe that's my #43 entry, lol...

I know this is essentially a "double post" -- maybe even triple one... but, just letting folks know that this list has grown from 17 ideas to something like 44...

Also, I've been editing the initial post, so... if you want some ideas, go check it out there!

Here are some of the latest updates to the initial post / list:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

39. -Random, customized, "special" enchantments on basic gear - ... Much like in Diablo or even the "Terraria" style games, it'd be nice to see some gear that is left by random enemies that has actual USE to you--other than selling it off, early in the game...

I think something like 1-5 possible "random enchantments" or random perks to an item might be nice. Examples:

* 10% to 25% more damage/defense

* 10% to 25% faster attack

* 10% to 25% less weight

* 10% to 25% "glow" effect (increases light radius)

* 10% to 25% chance to stun

* 10% to 25% chance to paralyze

...much like the Robes in the game having both increases to mana regen AND increases to destruction/restoration/alteration etc. etc.

Any given standard item worn or wielded by an enemy could have a chance to have 1 to 5 of these enchantments being applied to a piece of their gear. Might make it more interesting when you're first starting out, and (essentially)... every bow is NOT "the same", every axe is NOT "the same"...

40. -Better Spell Charging--fire a spell at any time during "chargeup" - ... Why not allow the casting of spells at any moment during a charge... and simply enough--if you charge to 100%... you do the best damage... and if not... the damage is scaled directly to how long you charge. Sort of like the bow--how long you wait to draw the bow/arrow affects range, damage, etc.

It could even be a slightly "non-linear" scale, where... the closer you get to "full charge"--the damage has some large benefits... so, the difference from charging up to 35% (instead of 45%)... and charging up to 88% (instead of 98%)--is significant.

41. -Mark Books as 'read' if you already read them - ... This is pretty obvious and self-explanatory. I can't BELIEVE I didn't mention THIS one before...

42. -Please fix shadow mapping... - ... Ok, I probably should have this at the top of my list here, but... IDK... it seems as if it can't be fixed without the CK anyhow... and maybe it's just poorly "hard-wired" into the coding that makes it so horrible... :( Either way... it's a pretty big deal, since... without doing all the "4096 x 4096" tweaks and--you know--the whole shadowblur=xxx thing or whatever... shadows in Skyrim are CLEARLY a complete and utter disaster. They are probably the worse thing in the game which haven't been fixed (next to some of the default textures, which are already fixed by great mods like "Skyrim HD" and "Serious retexture")...

So... yeah. Skyrim shadows look like they're from games in 2001. This is (I'm sorry)... VERY SAD and pathetic...

43. -Companions can ride other owned horses - ... Let's be honest... it's pretty ridiculous to be riding a horse... while Lydia is running after you like a complete loser / idiot. lol Besides, if you actually own >1 horses... why not have them act usefully?

44. -More transportation variance (although it's been covered by a modder a bit) - ... Personally... I'm thinking something awesome like a "magic carpet", which I have some quite fond memories of from Ultima V. :) It might even be a great excuse for there "not" to be a "flight" spell by any default means if that ends up breaking quests and so forth.

----------------------------

Anyhow... go check out the first post for a ton of ideas! :)

Also... if you have a better way to say it, or... a better way to encompass the mod idea / feature... I'm all ears.

I'm actually just trying to see if this list can help consolidate a lot of the ideas people are coming up with... and help modders to perhaps choose some to "tackle", accomplish them if they so choose (or can... with or without the CK)... and then perhaps the following can occur:

* Idea can be listed as "DONE"

* Link to new mod / patch / solution or solutions can be noted

* Author is credited

* Perhaps even a video link if need be (although the nexus would have this on the actual mod link)

I have no idea if anyone CARES about this concept of "consolidating" the general ideas for mods/patches... but... my guess is that it sure would help avoid the same requests getting made over and over and over... and possibly encourage someone to select a mod to tackle and do it.

Heaven knows... I keep seeing "the same posts/requests" on ideas over and over on here... and sometimes, they aren't even in detail. Just stuff like: "Spell casting sucks--will someone make a mod and fix"... which I think is essentially "not enough 411" to go off of...
