gamingfan
Hey everybody, I just installed oblivian again because i picked up the game of the year edition. I loaded the game and realized how bad the game can look. So i downloaded a few mods to up the textures etc but now im looking for a mod that will increase the object (trees, grass, ruins, mobs etc) distance of the game. I have a top end pc that can handle about everythig i throw at it. Ive looked online for about 2 hours and no luck. I know there are mods out there that increse the total draw distance but the objects still load as i come to them. If you guys could help out that would rock. This is the final mod i want to get before i start playing again. thanks P.S. Any suggestions on a model (weapons, toons) texture mod?
Vagrant0
There are only two ways to adjust it further. Either you need to have more cells loaded at once, or you need more things visible when distant. How many cells are loaded is controlled in the .ini file (uGridsToLoad IRRC), but this will have significant effects on performance since you're loading more area every time, and even if you have a good system, either the videocard or the processor speed, or the ram, will end up limiting things. The alternative is using a mod like "everything visible when distant" which applies _far models for more things, such as buildings and other statics. But everything visible when distant is generated using the vanilla world, do it does not support any structures or textures which are added by mods. gamingfan
thanks alot for the input. I changed the value of uGridsToLoad to 5000 figuring a bigger number would mean more drawn but it didnt seam to do anything. Any idea what the highest value is? Vagrant0
Are you sure you changed the .ini in your mydocuments/games/Oblivion folder? Changing the default in the Bethsoft/Oblivion folder won't do anything unless you are using a fresh install. And 5000 is a bit large considdering that the starting figure is 5. Realistically, even if you have the computer to do it, you shouldn't go above 10 if only because the game was not designed to have that much area loaded at once. You may also want to increase your exterior cell buffer to be equal to slightly more than the square of your gridstoload (IE 6 grids to load, buffer should be at around 40, 8 grids to load, buffer somewhere around 75). Doing so will of course increase the number of resources needed to play the game, so you should start off low, and move it up slowly.
