FCOM Crash to Desktop after Sleeping in Alternative Start... HELP PLEA

Hello everyone... I know that this has been a problem for many people, and that many other people have helped solve the problem, but when I follow the steps outlined for the solution, it never works for me. That's why I'm making this topic.

 

I have been following these amazing tutorials by Beamer159 on youtube:

The tutorial was uploaded on July 24th, 2011. He was using Oblivion off of a disk and had downloaded all of the dlc. I just recently bought the GOTY Oblivion Delux edition (which included ALL dlc) off of Steam.

 

Okay. The problem is like this: I start a new game, I'm on the boat, I create my character, and choose all the information in the scroll on the table. I then click on the bed to go to sleep. The game then goes to the loading screen, and RIGHT as it's done with the loading screen, the screen goes black and crashes to my desktop and a message comes up saying that "Oblivion has stopped working" and that "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

 

Again, I bought the game on Steam. When I try and run obse_loader.exe, I get this message:

"You are trying to use a Steam version of Oblivion. Steam users should launch the game through Steam, not by running obse_loader.exe."

 

So, I right click on Steam in my start menu and run it as administrator (which is what someone else in the comments said fixed his problem). I then procede to go to Library, choose Oblivion, and press PLAY.

 

Guess what? The game still crashes after I sleep.

 

What do I do? Do I need to share any more information, such as my BOSS reading? Because I didn't see anything wrong there.

 

I wasn't having this problem when I tested things at the end of video 4, but now that I did the things outlined in video 5, I can't get out of the boat!

 

Please. Help would be immensely appreciated.

Thanks so much for replying Nephenee13!

 

Hmmm... I'm almost positive that I don't, but let's see...

 

Local Disk (C:) > Program Files (x86) > Steam > steamapps > common > oblivion(it has a shortcut arrow... you know, the kind pointing northeast... on the folder icon) > and everything is in that folder (along with the BOSS, Data, directx, Mopy, and obmm folders)

 

Where I'm pretty dang sure I installed it (I went through a youtube tutorial on how to do this since I have Steam and all) is:

 

Local Disk (C:) > Games > Oblivion_Game (I made the folder name)(also, no shortcut arrow on this folder) > and again, everything is in that folder (along with the BOSS, Data, directx, Mopy, and obmm folders).

 

So yeah, the one in Program Files (x86) is a shortcut.

 

And also, I just wanted to reiterate that everything was working until I followed the steps in that 5th youtube video by Beamer159 titled Part 5: FCOM Installation Tutorial Part 5: Improving FCOM Performance

It's in that video that I was walked through on installing the script extender and script extender plugins, as well as shown EXACTLY how to clean the dirty mods that don't say they are dirty for a functional purpose. And I KNOW that I didn't screw up there. So my only thought is that it has to be one of the script extender plugins.

 

But I'm totally lost without step-by-step guidance. I don't know how to say, uninstall just those plugins, or how to determine which one is the culprit. Lol, sorry to say it, but I'm an ignorant helpless newb in all aspects of modding. That's why I'm asking for help, and that's why I'm so very thankful to anyone and everyone who is selfless and knowledgeable enough to give me a hand.

No, and I can't anymore. You see, I decided to throw the baby out with the bath water and uninstall Oblivion. Luckily, I was smart enough to make a backup of Oblivion in case anything bad happened, since for whatever annoyingly stupid reason, when I first installed Oblivion from the Steam Library page, it only installed it at a maximum of 300KB/s, taking literally all freakin' day.

 

And anyways, I thought that the whole point of alternative start was to put you in a spot in the game to where you could quickly and easily see if your mods would work or not. So, even if I had tried starting without using arrival by ship, wouldn't it eventually crash nonetheless?

 

Regardless, the point is that I'm going to try again. But this time, I'm going to keep a backup of everything somewhere on my computer. After each video, I'm going to go into the game and see whether or not it crashes. If everything is fine, then I will overwrite the backup with the changes I had made in that video.

 

I'll let you know the outcome of what I find.
