LE Followers won't always wear the gear i give them.

Hey !! i've been looking for a while now for a way to force my follower to wear what i give them. For example , Erandur ( Priest of Mara from Dawnstar) totally refuses to wear different robes than the ones he's wearing when you first meet him. Those very ugly yellow-ish robes that every priests of Mara are wearing.

 

I want him to wear the Hoodless version of the thalmor robes cuz in my opinion they are the only good looking mage robes in the whole game. The only way that i found to make him wear it is to force it on him by using the console but everytime i fast travel or enter a building, he ends up with his Mara priest robes back on again and i have to retype the command to make him wear the Thalmor robes again . This is getting very annoying .

 

So is there a way to make him wear a certain item permanently ? or is there a mod out there that does that ?

 

I wanna clear out that he does wear any chest peice i give him that has an armor bonus but since robes don't give any armor bonus , he won't wear them. I even tried offering him my Archmage robes and he won't even wear those. Now i'm absolutly certain that the Archmage robes are 100 times better than his puny priest of Mara robes. It's like he doesn't care at all about the enchantments of an item but only about armor. I could give him an item that offers 1 point of armor and no enchantments and he would wear it but offering him an item with 2 of the best enchantments won't even get his attention. It's very frustrating.

 

Another stupid thing i found with this issue is that since his robes of Mara are hooded, when i give him a helmet that he wants, he takes the helmet but then he ends up naked because he's too stupid to take the hood off of his head and he'd rather take off the whole robes and keep only the head piece. But still after he took off his own robes to take the head piece, he still won't accept any hoodless robes i give him unless i force it on him using the Console command.

 

So please someone help me with this. I'm begging on my knees.

Get the perk/s that allow you to steal what is equipped or worn - take their default gear (that you otherwise cannot touch via normal trading).

 

Give them the gear you want them to wear - done, no need for a mod.

Thanks for the reply . Though i had thought about that but there is a problem for me with this solution, i'm lvl 54 with this character and he's a kinda deathknight. I've never trained my pickpocket skill with him at all. Everytime i tried to pickpocket someone , i got caught. I've never been the sneaky type in any of the games i've played. Never played a rogue in WoW, never played a burglar in Lotro and i never spent a single perk point in Sneak or in pickpocket in this game. The thief guild is also the only faction i've never joined in this game with all 3 of my characters.

 

So i'm assuming that the solution you offer me would be a good one for a futur assassin type character but definatly not for this one. I would realy rather not spend any of my few remaining perk points in pickpocket. Especialy because of the fact that i'm not lvling realy fast at this point. And my pickpocket skill is still only at 17 i think .

This has been asked (complained about) dozens if times, an NPC's default gear will constantly respawn, every time you save/reload or fire/hire them and you are correct that followers only care about armor rating ...

You can try this

Thanks for the reply . I actualy found a post today that talked about console commands i didn't know about and it seemed to have fixed the problem for me .

 

I'll explain it here just in case some people are reading this thread hoping to get answers themselves.

 

1-Open console and then click on your follower

2-type "showinventory" without the quotes ( this will show you a list of everything your follower has , even the hidden items and it will give you the code for each item and the amount of each items he has )

3-type "removeitem" "code of item" "amount"

 

For example :

 

removeitem 00065BBF 12

 

the code in this example is the code for the thalmor robes and the 12 represents the amount so if for any reason , your follower had 12 copies of his default robes , this will remove them all and he will stop puting them back on every chance he gets.

 

I tried it earlier and it works . My follower finaly IS wearing the thalmor robes everywhere we go . And this method also works for those of you who have trouble with their followers always using their worthless default bow even after you give them a much better one . Just remove their default bow using this method and they will use whatever bow you gave them.

 

*Note* i beleive that if you release your follower and hire him again later , his default gear might have respawned and you'll have to go through those steps again but at least you only have to go through them once untill you decide to release him again which is much better than having to tell him to equipitem after every loading screen.

 

Hope this will help others who still experience the problem.
