khvn
Skyrim is a great game for us old school TES fans. Its aesthetically perfect, very rich in all kinds of detail and is overall a very big improvement over somewhat cheesy Oblivion. Skyrim brought back what we loved in TESIII - an immersive, original world with distinctive role playing system which allows the player to be whatever he wants to be.What I request is to use this opportunity and bring back the level of immersion most of us were amazed at while playing Morrowind. I'll try to define some steps we could take to accomplish this. UI. Looks like Skyrim's UI system allows much more flexible modding than Oblivion did. We should attempt to implement a window-based, mouse-driven, PC-oriented user interface Morrowind had, with any modern features that can come to mind.Stuff. Skyrim has an amazing crafting system implemented right away. So let's bring all the cool stuff from Morrowind back to make it actually interesting! To implement complex armor (shoulder straps, separate gloves etc.) would be an nontrivial thing to do, but making a decent armor\weapon repair system really doesn't look that difficult, along with fletching, spears, ninja stars, more actual uniqueness to unique items, crossbows etc.Old school NPCs and quests. Removing dialogue voice-overs would allow modders to create truly unique NPCs, to rewrite the main and guild quest lines to be more complicated and less obvious and to remove quest markers, would allow for much more variety in randomly generated ("radiant") quests, and, most important of all, would allow for much more immersive and seamless addition of provinces from past games (which the game already has a nice base for.) Also removing the concept of 'essential' NPCs is a must. (It's easy to add a generic 'you've broken your destiny' message instead.) I'm sure such a mod would totally rock and become quite a popular addition to Skyrim. I invite everybody to express your opinion on this request and add your own suggestions. Oh, and I'm sorry if a similiar thread already exists, I didn't manage to find one here.
SoulofChrysamere
I'd personally love such a mod. Point three might not come to fruition though. I myself don't care either way, but let's face it...Oblivion's voice-overs will have spoiled some people. It would be very nice to finally have back some frakkin' weapon variety though. I miss Morrowind's spears...and staves that you can't physically fight with? Seriously?
JanusForbeare
As an die-hard TES junkie, I like where this idea is going. When you play the game on a PC, you begin to feel hamstrung by the interface, which is clearly designed with console gamers in mind. The most notable instance of this is the shopping/inventory window, which will close unless you click precisely on the item you want (I swear, the line 'I'm sworn to carry your burdens' wouldn't bother me so much if I didn't have re-open trade eight times in a row). A return to the mouse-driven days of Morrowind would be refreshing at this point. The only place I disagree with you is when it comes to removing the voice-overs. While there is a lot of merit in your argument (and I see the partial return of text-driven adventures as an inevitability), I feel that this is one mechanic that Bethesda actually got right. For the first time, I can sit back and listen to what is being said to me without reading ahead or seeing my potential responses ahead of time. Though not all modders will have access to voice actors and decent recording equipment, a basic computer mic is cheap and easily installed these days. I think we should encourage as much voice acting as possible amongst the community - with the text-driven option there for those who prefer it. JanusForbeare
Bump, because I just realized there's a solution out there for issue #1. Try using SkyUI (http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3863). It's a much more PC friendly layout than Vanilla.
phantur
I want a team to take Morrowind... everything in it... and upgrade the graphics to Skyrim standards. Too bad this will never happen. :C
ricechex
actually I think this is possible, though the only way this would be legal is if gamers could rise to the occasion and voice every part, and craft everything by hand, and as modders,we don't have to let everything out in one HUGE lump,we can take this on little by little.I say we gather some modders, and craft the entrence scene to morrowind in skyrim. All that needs to be done is make that first city.I know this is just wishful thinking, but atleast it's sensible wishful thinking...right?
