mollysbrian
ok as i admit I’m a noob so bear with me, so there I was happy  and installing the first mod I have ever installed, doing everything as this guide told me to http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Tutorials.Detail&id=60 I got to the part were I load the mod, I Started the launcher as I would usually, but instead of clicking Play button, I clicked on Data Files button, but when the data file screen came up there was no files there except for the oblivion.esm(master file), so I looked in the the oblivion file thinking I mist a file or something and all the files I saw were .nif and .doc files, the files I think were supposed to be .esp were the .doc and I don’t know about the .nif files :wallbash: can some one tell me if I’m stupid or is it a problem with my computer
uknowimwierd
Yes the esp file is what apears on the data files page in the launcher and i what is supposed to be placed in the Oblivion/Data folder. Therfore I'd say it's the Mod's fault since it doesn't have a esp file?
Alaisiagae
What mod is it? Could you link it? I could download it and see what needs to be done to make it work. The .doc file is probably the readme, and the .nif files are related to meshes. Not all mods use an esp file, some of them you directly insert into certain folders in the Oblivion\Data folder. (If you think you might install more mods, I highly recommend timeslips Oblivion Mod Manager (download page is here). I found it a bit confusing at first, but it has proven itself to be an invaluable asset for installing and uninstalling mods safely. If you do end up using it, I'd be glad to answer any questions regarding getting mods into the OBMM, though I am sure there are dozens of forum threads out there that could help, too. Oh, I also recommend the Unoffical Oblivion Patches.)
bben46
you did unzip it into the Oblivion\Data folder didn't you? When I tried to follow the link you gave I got an out of date or broken link message. It sounds to me as if your unzip program has placed some of the files in the wrong folders. I recommend 7zip as several other better known unzip programs are guilty of this (winzip, winrar, tugzip) 7zip is free and available here http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15579 When you unzip the mod into the Oblivion\Data folder, the Modname.esp file should be in the Oblivion\Data folder, if there is a .bsa file it should also be in the data folder, If your mod has .nif or .dds or .mp3 files they should be in the Oblivion\Data\Meshes and Oblivion\Data\Textures and Oblivion\Data\sounds folders. The readme usually ends up in the data folder also but is not needed to play - you should read it anyway for information on the mod.
