SilverInsanity
Hello beautiful Nexus folks! I decided I wanted to dip my toes into modding yesterday by importing a custom inquisitor portrait and complexion, but I must be doing something wrong in the import/export process because while other portrait/complexion mods run fine, as soon as I try to load a save using one of my mods I get an error and the game crashes. I'll attach a screenshot of that along with the settings I've been using to import and export dds files to/from Photoshop. So far I have:Doubled-checked to make sure other identical mods still workPlayed with the export settings in PSUninstalled & reinstalled SlimDX SDKUninstalled & reinstalled the Nvidia PS plugin the universal tech support fix (turning it off & on again)In ModMaker I can preview all of Bioware's textures, but as soon as I try to preview another modder's texture (even one that works in-game) I get a simple "an error occurred while rendering the texture" and the texture preview box pulls up black. I'm sorry I know there's probably an agonizingly simple answer for this, but I'm clearly out of my depth, so any help would be greatly appreciated! Deleted23328924User
Hello SilverInsanity I know this error message, I had it sometimes with my pj mods. It happens if the game/DirectX can't reflect a certain texture because it's too high or something like that.Unfortunately I have never tried to make this type of mod but maybe this tutorial will help you to check your steps? https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/2871484-tutorial-adding-a-custom-portrait-to-inquisition/ If it still doesn't work, I recommend to try an older version of ModMaker ( v1.1.0.16 alpha ), this has often been a good solution for me. You can get it here: http://daitools.freeforums.org/latest-version-announcement-t1065.html
nightscrawl
Make sure you're using ModMaker v16 or 17 for images. Use v19 for ebx edits.
SilverInsanity
Thanks so much for answering you guys! I downloaded the earlier ModMaker, and I think that probably helped some. And Barlet89 that was actually the exact tutorial I was following, but I was trying to use photoshop instead of GIMP. I ended up installing GIMP and the dds plugin for that and then exporting my PSDs though GIMP as DDS files and it actually worked! It's kinda a hassle having to open GIMP just to save something out, but at least I got both my mods working. I'm 99% sure it's a problem with the NVIDIA DDS plugin for Photoshop since I"m actually using Creative Cloud and apparently that can cause the plugin to misbehave. Some people have had luck installing the plugin directly into the program folder with photoshop.exe and installing both the 64bit & the 32bit versions, but I don't have the energy to try that now atm since I have a workaround. Maybe in the future.
