Having trouble with navmeshing in CK

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to navmesh some stairs and the overpass above Finch Farm. Got everything laid and the overpass is meshed, but when I test the navmesh on the stairs leading up there, I am having trouble. It keeps getting stuck at one spot on the stairs, and no matter how many times I redo the navmesh, it continues to have problems.

This is the first time I've been messing with navmeshing, so I may not be doing it right. Does anyone have some ideas on why it is doing this?

i actually just figured it out. The navmesh was apparently too thin across. I widened it a bit and it worked ok.

Gotta try testing in game next and see if it works.

From the angle of the pics i cant see if there is any Cells connecting at that point.

Do you know how to finalize and connect cells together??

Simply aligning 2 lines next to each other wont connect the navmesh unless you "finalize".

You can use "finalize loaded area" from the navmesh drop down menu.

It takes a couple of mins so let it do its job and dont touch anything in the meanwhile or it might crash.

Also note that you cant finalize scattered points...

Both the lines and points have to align to each other on both sides.

If you are missing a in between point ...pull one end back and creat a new triangle if you have to,

Also note that you have to align by height as well so all ways look at it from all angles

here is an example of what i mean by connecting point to point... http://prntscr.com/dsx6c9

One more thing...

You can direct the NPC to follow a specific path on stuff like a bridge with obstacles for example by using the "preferred path".

And this is done by highlighting the triangles you want to use (one by one) and pressing "p" ( it will turn a brownish-orange color ).

So as soon as the NPC steps on a brown triangle it will stay on those triangles till it doesnt find any more

Thanks for explaining this. This helped with getting the back left part of the overpass navmeshed properly. 4 different cells converge at that part of the overpass, and I had no idea how to "bridge" the navmeshes for them to connect to each other. I'm guessing I aligned them okay, because after finalizing, the lines went from thin yellow to thick green.

I know you sorted your issues already, but this video is *really* good at describing the more advanced navmesh stuff like navmeshing exteriors, water, preferred pathing, cover, etc. I highly recommend it as the best navmesh video I've watched (even better than the Fallout videos). It's for Skyrim but all of it still applies. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JGpfOLiLic
