envyme
I see a lot of talk about people wanting online capability in Skyrim. I can't say that I am 100 percent for it but I'm not 100 percent against it either. As long as it could be incorporated in a way that fits Skyrim Lore and does not dilute the Skyrim gameplay. Ive been giving it some thought and i think i have found two decent ways that you could bring multiplayer to Skyrim. The first would be a tavern system where you could go to a local tavern and approach a recruitment parchment on the wall where you could access the multiplayer UI. from here you could set your option of either closed, open, or private online play, or to post a request to join a game. This would leave Sword for hire parchments on the wall with character descriptions where the player could pick which person he wanted to 'hire' to join his game. The character would then come strolling through the door. He has now entered the game and can function as any other companion would. He can trade with the player but cannot engage himself in quests. The other method would be for PVP. Now I'm not too fond of PVP in most aspects. Games like dark souls where they just bust into your game and cause havoc on your world. So I think a more organized PVP would be in order. I suggest an arena opens up in Skyrim. Where heroes far and wide can come to compete in a number of different types of battles (melee, ranged, magic, unarmed, anything goes, team matches, team death matches...you get the picture). You could even have the option to bet the competitor on the match. Both of these could easily be introduced through DLC and without altering or interfering with the original game in any way. JanusForbeare
Personally, I think online play will just cheapen the already-diluted spirit of The Elder Scrolls. It will encourage powergaming and one-upsmanship, and put the emphasis on gear and experience rather than immersion. Worst of all, it may give Beth ideas about releasing an Elder Scrolls MMORPG. Ugh. Can you imagine what a mess that would be?
WOTmodsproductions
Yeah but what if it was a simple system like the one in dead island, you keep you level and items etc but you go into another gamers world and any quests etc you complete have no effect on your save when you load it in your world. So basically you tag along on a friends adventure by linking up two xboxs etc etc.Even with just a LAN play I think it would be good now and again. And someone is trying to make a multiplayer mod for Skyrim, I saw a video of it somewhere on youtube

JanusForbeare
Yeah, apparently even in its alpha incarnation its the most popular mod on the nexus right now. Clearly there's a lot of interest. I remember trying a similar mod for Morrowind (admittedly, that was years ago, and a different engine) and it was just terrible. Both players could see each other, but from there the interactivity ended. No questing together, no hearing the same dialog, nothing. Which is another point... there will be countless technical issues to be overcome simply bringing any kind of decent, balanced multiplayer to even vanilla Skyrim (and it would have to be vanilla - there's no telling how 3rd party mods would interact with such fundamental changes to the gameplay mechanics). Consider, for instance, the FPS issues many players already experience with the game. Adding a second player will compound these problems, especially in large battles. Combat AI would also have to re-written, as NPCs already have difficulty contending with a single human mind and all the exploits it can devise. I can't think of much in the vanilla game that would offer a real threat against two well-equipped players. And how would zoning work? The game is certainly not designed to render two zones (say, the Throat of the World and Solitude) at the same time. Unless someone plans on hosting a server at their own expense, the players would likely have to stay close to each other at all times - perhaps even within eyesight. I'm not saying it can't happen (though I have my doubts about whether it should). I'm just saying, there are a LOT of hurdles to be overcome before this is even in the realm of possibility. EDIT: Skyrim online in its current incarnation is about as far as Morrowind Online ever got. So kudos to the designers, but we'll see how much farther they get.
