spork542
OK, this is really starting to bug me. I've played this game for a while now. I have no mods besides graphical mods. Every single time I go on the road to go East from Whiterun to somewhere else (or to Whiterun in the opposite direction,) there's a random encounter near White River Watch. It was kind of cool at first, but it's really stupid that every single time I pass by there's something happening. There are ancient Nord weapons and Imperial soldiers in their underwear all over the place, and then every time I go there's another stupid random encounter. I mean this literally. If I just go to Breezehome and then go back, I have another random encounter at the exact same place. By the gods, can't thieves, criminals, corrupt Imperial soldiers, Vigilants of Stendarr, rogue mages, and everything else that appears in random encounters find someplace else to congregate? This is just absurd. Following that rant, I have three questions.1. Does anyone else always experience random encounters here?2. What would cause this? Do different random encounter spots have different probabilities for encounters?3. Is there anything I can do or do I just have to accept that this place is a magical place where strange things always happen?
Dukkah
Hey there! I have the same problem, but in a different spot. Being the awesome Archmage that I am, I often go through Winterhold into the mountains. There is a certain spot, not far from Saarthal(sp?) where I can always expect to encounter someone. I don't know how to fix it, but I think it's supposed to happen; there are just spots in the game that are akin to random encounters found in a lot of older RPGs. I know that doesn't help, but I just thought you should know you're not alone in your frustration >_<
surg23
Although i have no technical knowledge about how it works, but i can say with some certainty that there are Random encounter spawn points on the map, they seem to be static and never change, though what spawns from them is variable and will change upon load. ferus
Yes, I have them too... actually I have two repeating random encounters now. The one that you mentioned (with the stripped bodies and guards who attack me every time). The other one is related to the drinking contest quest - after you finish the quest you meet a guy to whom you (while you were drunk) promised something... And he wants you to give him some money. If you refuse he attacks you. No problem so far... the problem is that I killed that guy TWICE already :-/ He has a unique name and I killed him twice. Meh...I can only think that some flag or checkpoint (call it what you want) for random encounters somehow doesn't update and it replays them over and over and over... I guess if Valve can have their "Valve time", Bethesda can have "Bethesda programming"... So I think this is an example of the latter.
Krawll
i've been playing for a while now and hadn't noticed that some spots always had encounters but thats probably because i actualy enjoy being attacked lol. The more encounters i get while traveling in the wilderness , the happier i am. I even found that there weren't enough encounters for my taste . I even wish that encounters would be bigger such as being attacked by 10 bandits at once instead of the usual 2-3 . I guess they had to try and keep a certain balance in that area to try and please as many people as possible. I guess in your case you'd have to try and go around the area that you described to try and avoid the encounter. In my case i'd have to try and find those special spots and make sure to run through them as much as i can lol .

The problem is that the situation, the dialogs - well EVERYTHING is the same every time I go to that spot. And it is annoying to say the least. It's like listening to one song over and over and over... and over :-)
