290.53 Nvidia driver = Awesome!

I made this thread just for people that aren't aware of the new Beta driver for Nvidia cards. I have recently installed these drivers and the claimed performance gain of 25% for Skyrim is no exaggeration. It truly makes a massive difference. I'm sure many people already know about, or are running them at present, but i just wanted to increase exposure so other people can take advantage of this.

I'm playing on a GTX-560 1gb with everything maxed out and it runs smooth as silk. It really is a remarkable improvement over the 285.62 WHQL driver which would slow down dramatically in some areas, and so far i have not noticed any instability. So i strongly recommend trying it out, worst case scenario is you have to roll-back driver, it's a win-win situation.

Also i have tested these drivers with a few other titles such as Saints row 3, and it didn't have any noticeable effect, but the FPS gain for Skyrim alone is worth it.

Happy gaming.

Like i said, i'm sure many people know about it, this is primarily for people who don't frequent the other sub-forums, as i have been glued to this General discussion forum for the last month and there was not a single thread about this subject.

Oah i use ATI, because im a TRUE gamer ;)

True gamer even though you don't know the company is called AMD and has been for a while? :P

I stay true to Nvidia because they made the original GPU and forced 3dfx into bankruptcy, back when I started PC gaming.

ZOMFG remember those VOODOO 1 cards?

Anyways, in regards to the driver I have to say it really coms down to what card you have. If you have a relatively new and shiny GTX then sure, they'll help, but my Geforce 9700m went from acceptable fps to unplayable on the new drivers.

I had to go back to 285.79 to play Skyrim again on my old machine.

I never owned a Voodoo card, but i remember my first 3d card, it was a Geforce 2 - MX440 64mb. That card was a beast for it's time. I never realized just how good it was until several generations later and noticed it held it's own with much newer technology.

That is a shame about the driver not working for you, hopefully this will change when it's out of Beta.

I remember that. It's comparable to an 8800gt. That thing lasted me almost 4 years (still works) and still gets respectable performance out of new games. When I look back on it now, it seems kind of foolish to put a single slot cooler on a 65nm card. Since the 8800gt was one of the first to upgrade from 90nm I guess they were feeling cocky.
