Skyrim's AI

I'm wondering if such retarded AI can be fixed by modders, because it's not fun at all. The game looks like a low-budget trash with such moments.

I think despite the bugginess, its pretty fascinating. I dropped a diamond, sapphire in the middle of Riften. Long story short, everyone went insane and Mjoll and my companion were going at it. They were on opposite sides of the marketplace (or town square...dunno) shooting arrows at each other, and ducking behind stalls and the walls behind them. It was cool to watch xD

These two esсaped from mental hospital? I bet guards did nothing to stop them. :wallbash:

There's definitely still some major flaws to be overcome in the AI, especially in regards to stealth and height. That being said, there have been some noticeable improvements since Oblivion. For the first time, enemies actively work to flank you (wolf packs are great at this). Also, enemies have become more adept at avoiding arrows, provided they see them coming. They'll duck behind cover or dodge to the side at the last moment, both of which make ranged combat more challenging and enjoyable.

Ah yes, their famous matrix slide to the right, avoiding an incoming arrow... Gotta love it :psyduck:

They have no chance against heavy mace. 8)

This is something i was most disappointed with within Skyrim, i dont know what i was expecting but i dont like the scripted events which happen when you enter most cities, gives a feeling of playing the same game twice if you know what i mean. I would have thought the AI would be like super AI or something by now and a NPC would react to everything.

So like above in the video, if a NPC was marked as evil/murderer then they could go on murdering sprees and such which would happen when the AI decided it and would make quests leading on from that. Also the guard in the video stood by and didn't even acknowledge the murder i at least wanted THAT to be more perfected.

I dont see video games and Skyrim sort of games advancing any further (to my liking anyway) in till a computer can think for itself and do weird space-age jazz like in the films, because they will always be a tech wall which will still make games the same, years down the line for me :(

Heh. That guard was like "Oh, someone died! LOL!"

Reminds me of the reactions characters have whenever they walk by Ulfric and his butt buddy's corpses in the Blue Palace (since their bodies won't disappear for some reason).

They're like "I'll find out who did this!" and "Oh no! What happened?", as though the battle for Windhelm didn't happen and I didn't shout the rebellion down and execute their leader. :wallbash:

Skyrim's A.I. shows some improvement over Oblivion's, but there are still problems. Once again, Bethesda did a terrible job with sneak. It's retarded how NPCs still dismiss sneak attacks with the "must have been the wind" mentality. Uh no it wasn't the wind. You have an arrow stuck on your back... It's obvious someone is hiding in the shadows and wants you dead. Another problem with Skyrim's A.I. are the NPC reactions to dragons. During a dragon attack in Whiterun, I hear Ysolda and Carlotta shouting in terror, but they just stand there in the open, making them easy targets for the dragon to roast. Why won't they run into their homes or into a nearby building if necessary?

What I really want to see, maybe a mod for it some day is like the commerical for Skyrim have the guards ring bells, and all the citizens, screaming, and running for safety.

Actually arrows aren't that fast compared to bullets. I've seen stunts of people catching an arrow, albeit it requires quite some training, and I suppose they must be fired from a short bow. A long bow would just be too much velocity anyway, whose arrows can go right through platesteel, but the shortbow fired arrow still breaks your hand if you do it wrong. They used arrows with stubs on the head, at least you don't get the danger to be pierced.

You should check X3 series with it's fully alive world and dynamic economy, their ALife AI system is great. And Dwarf Fortress. With small budget they've made much better AI engines.
