LE White Phial main quest req' removal

Normally, Repairing the White Phial requires progress in the main quest Throat of the World. Can someone put together a mod removing this requirement and adding another unmelting snow gather spot near High Hrothgar or near the 7,000 steps path?

Hello there! The patch of Unmelting Snow is part of the Throat's architecture, so I'm (personally) not all too keen on tampering with that.....that, and you can easily reach & unlock the map marker for that area without needing Clear Skies and/or MQ progression, as long as you don't mind "borrowing" someone's horse. ;P

 

However, I *will* show you (and everyone else reading this) how to change the MQ requirement for this quest entirely. Navigate to your Skyrim installation folder, then go to Data>Scripts>Source, and create a backup of the file marked "MS12QuestScript.psc". Do the same thing with the similarly-named file in the "Scripts" folder.

 

Next, open your Creation Kit. If you're already in the process of creating your own custom mod, load it. If not, just load Skyrim.esm & Update.esm. Type "ms1" in the Object Window's Filter box, then open the "Character" tab, and click on "Quest". You should see the quest titled "The White Phial" on the right side of the menu. Open that, and go to the "Scripts" tab at the top of the window. Click on "MS12QuestScript", and click "Properties". See where it says "PreReq"? Click on that, and a drop-down menu will appear on the right. Change the specified value to whatever you want, like "MQ101" (Unbound), and click "OK", then click "OK" again to close the window. Whatever you pick, just be sure to remember it, because you'll need that for the next step. Don't forget to delete the filtered text in the Object Window, either!

 

Now, this is where things might be slightly confusing for some. In the "Character" menu of the Object Window, click on "SM Event Node", and in the list that appears, open "Change Location Event". Click the plus sign in front of "Stacked Branch Node: QuestNode", then click on "Stacked Quest Node: MS12bStartingNode". At the bottom of the screen, you should see the list of "Node Conditions" that control when & how the quest starts, with a very specific "GetStageDone" condition that still has "MQ204" as a requirement. Open that, then click on "Quest:...." to change the function parameters. Change "Quest" to whatever it was you chose as your new prerequisite in the quest script, and change "Stage" to any value that exists for that particular quest (look it up on UESP at the bottom of any quest page if you need the specific values available for any quest). Click "OK" three times, and then save your mod.

 

A few days after you complete the quest "The White Phial", you should be immediately visited by the courier who will give you the letter to start the quest "Repairing the Phial". Enjoy, and good luck with the quest! :D
