Power Armor mod idea

So, I'm extremely disappointed in the PA System this game created. Power Armor being used by anyone, falling apart when taking 30 hits from a pipe rifle, powered by glorified D batteries.... There were quite a few mods that fixed these problems, but one pet peeve of mine hasn't been accomplished yet.

 

Power Armor is supposed to emulate the toughness of a tank, as I'm sure you all are aware. So why then should the person inside it take any damage whatsoever from a caliber that didn't penetrate or even dent the armor, such as 5mm, .38 or .45? I would even argue .308 shouldn't do any damage to something with the protection of AT LEAST an M4 Sherman, right?

 

Would it be possible to create an immunity system for power armor by giving specific calibers a "does not harm power armor" parameter?

But! Mod such you describe exists http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/7515/? Or very seimiliar to your description and i am using it. The issue is that enemies in PA are almost immortal due to system of damage and author of the mod doesn't update it yet...

 

Anyway I agree with you and i have in mind some ideas about PA overhaul. Of course PA are designed to replaced tanks on battlefields but with such defense power the game will be boring in few minutes. In my opinion, there should be some speed, energy drainage and energy drainage adjustments. PA should dominate a battlefield but at high cost of usage - increased fusion core drainage, no stealth, vulnerability to explosives (not exactly molotoves). Different speeds of PA -> Basic - very slow (almost walking); standard draiage of power, Advanced - running; high drainage of energy. Sprinting in PA (boosting) should exhaust fusion core in few seconds.

 

PA should be designed for fights against hard enemies - deathclaws, robots, PA enemies and create additional power for really tough enemies which are not defeatable at standard recon mission.

 

Different abilities and characteristics would be also nice for power armors like that X-01 is faster than standard PA. Raider power can use longer fusion cores etc etc... Abilitiy to wear clothes under PA etc...

 

Also - 0.50 caliber has no primary usage in vanilla game, unless you modify your huntig rifle - there is oppurtunity to design this caliber as only ammo which directly penetrate the PA and cause harm or best ammo to crack down the PA parts to make you vulnerable...
