Stormcrown
Civil War Questline Spoilers Below, Stormcloak side. There's a lot of Empire vs Stormcloak talk, so I decided to post the victory speech after taking over Solitude in the Stormcloak questline. Galmar: And now, I present to you, Ulfric Stormcloak, hero of the people, liberator and High King of Skyrim! Ulfric: I am indeed Ulfric Stormcloak, and at my side the man we know as Stormblade, and the world knows as the Dragonborn. And indeed, there are many that call us heroes. But it is all of you who are the true heroes! It was you who faught a dying Empire who sunk its claws into our land, trying to drag us down with it. It was you who fought the Thalmor and their puppets who would have us deny our gods and our heritage. It was you who fought your kin who didn't understand our cause, who weren't willing to pay the price of our freedom. But more than that, it was you who fought for Skyrim, for our right to fight our own battles... to return to our glory and traditions, to determine our own future! And it is for these reasons that I cannot accept the mantle of "High King." Not until the Moot declares that title should adorn my shoulders will I accept it. (Talking to Lady Elisif, who swears fealty to Ulfric, and then Ulfric lets her remain as Jarl) A great darkness is growing, and soon we will be called to fight it, on these shores or abroad. The Aldmeri Dominion may have defeated the Empire, but it has not...defeated... Skyrim! Personally, this is the speech that made my really side with the Stormcloaks. What are your opinions of this speech? I think Bethesda G.S. did a great job on this speech.

Stormcrown
brb siding with ulfric Lol. Probably sarcasm, but I thought that speech really showed a side of Ulfric that you don't see. Bethesda did a really good job of creating the controversy between two sides.

mehungry
This is why I would never side with the Imperials. I don't agree with Ulfric on most things, such as his racist attitudes towards non-nords, but I'd rather side with him than Imperials any day. Those rats tried to kill me for heaven's sake! Anyway, SPT (sneak, pick, thieve) 4 lyf. Thieves guild is where my allegiance lies.

Vizm
Bethesda did a good job of making a choice with both sides viable. There are hints throughout the game that the Empire balks at the yoke the Thalmore have put on the empire and there are undertones of imminent rebellion. That's a nice speech Ulfric gave but it still doesn't discount the way he defeated the High King although technically "legal" nor the eggs he broke along the way. There is little chance he wouldn't be declared High King since those in power owe him for placing them there. It's a speech for the people and no more. Ulfric was despicable although his cause was just... The Empire in general is Just but the cause was despicable... It's quite possible that Skyrim put the nail in the coffin of the empire by pulling away where a unified empire might have the strength to one day throw off the Dominion. Secondly if the empire crumbles does it not make it easier for the dominion to harass or take Skyrim? Shrug... hard to say. David Brasher
There is no way to argue people out of religious beliefs. The Thalmor believe that Talos is not a god. The Nords of Skyrim cherish him as one of their most honored gods. So no discussion is possible. People never change unless they want to. So the political questions are just sort of a sideshow, and the real issue is religion. I myself firmly believe in Talos. Every time I pray at one of his shrines, I get a blessing that has a measurable effect on my character. Like it heals diseases and restores health and magicka. If I were in a religious discussion with a Thalmor, I would tell them about how shrines to Talos always work when I use them. He probably wouldn't listen to me, but that is what I would tell him as my argument that Talos is really a god. The Empire and the independent Skyrim will be in a worse position when compared to the Aldmeri Dominion than they were before they separated. Hopefully there are dragons in other lands besides Skyrim. The dragons would lay waste to these places and destroy the Aldmeri Dominion if given enough time. Video games are sort of unrealistic. Why not just send the Dragonborn to the Aldmeri Dominion and have him destroy it? He or she could do it if given long enough. Just slowly and steadily kill small groups of soldiers, town guards, and leaders until their empire crumbles.
