Hi,

I am making a darkbrotherhood extension mod that will focus on the origin of the Darkbrother hood.

Now for what I have planed this would be a lot for just one person so

I need help.

1: texturer.Who would make DB clothes, capes, bed sheets etc

1: quest maker and quest scripter More assassination quests

1: Scripter: I would need a script that transfer items from one container to the next

If you have any of these skills or have any comments please leave them here.

NOTE if you have any work that would show what you can do please tell me.

And as for me I will be making cells Interior and exterior, NPC packaging and mild scripting and writing.

Thank you

I'm not a modder, but I do like the DB. Some excellent sources of information from in-game would be The Imperial Library and the Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages. I'd be happy to proof read/be an editor for/generate any written/spoken lines of text. I also have some ideas regarding possible quests, and areas that are already in-game that could be used by this mod. Would you be interested in hearing my thoughts on the matter?

I'd love to. And by written/spoken do you mean voicem acting?

Oh, I have no experience voice acting. I just meant the subtitles/text for NPC dialog.

I have a few ideas, though they are still unrefined.

Possible in-game areas to use:

- Fort Sutch: this is already used in a DB quest. Perhaps a new quest would focus on getting rid of the previous inhabitants and setting Sutch up as a base

- Nerastarel's House (Skingrad): I've always thought this abandoned house might make a good front for a DB base, much like the Abandoned House in Cheydinhal. There is a well in the backyard of the house; however, I am currently using Bananasplit's Better Cities, and I don't think the well is still there. Alternately, the house could be gutted and refurbished as a real house with an NPC Nerastarel. This NPC could then be the target of a DB contract.

Regarding the origin of the Dark Brotherhood: I've been doing some light reading, primarily from these three books: The Brothers of Darkness, Fire and Darkness: The Brotherhoods of Death, and Sacred Witness: A True History of the Night Mother. The UESP page for the Morag Tong gives a brief history of the guild as well. You'd have to draw on the lore of these (and possibly other ingame books) books, reconcile conflicting information, and formulate a history the mod can draw upon. I suppose starting with a vague timeline would help, as well as listing aspects of the DB and the Morag Tong...

I imagine that exploring the origin of the DB will doubtless include the Morag Tong. I don't think there should be any qualms about involving the Tong; after all, in TES III, several of the Morag Tong quests involved killing Dark Brotherhood members. Additionally: "However, the Dark Brotherhood has a monopoly on illegal assassination outside of Morrowind, and Dark Brothers have been known to abduct Tong agents wherever they find them." -- UESP. Perhaps the player will run across or have a competing contract with a Morag Tong member. Maybe one of the Morag Tong NPCs can be one of the Tong members from TES III Morrowind. I must mentioned, however, that, although I have TES III: Morrowind (Game of the Year Edition), I have not had a character who joined the Morag Tong faction -- my information is, as is probably obvious by now, from the UESP.

Quests - a few vague ideas...

- My first character joined the DB. After completing all the quests, I was rather bored, so I decided to join more guilds. My rationalisation for joining the Thieve's Guild: my character would know about members who, like Night Mother's account from Sacred Witness, preferred to kill the owner rather than waste time tip-toeing around, and thus arrange for those miscreants to be contacted and recruited by the Dark Brotherhood. Similar reasoning was behind my entrance to the Mages Guild. Mostly, I just wanted all the quests and fun. But, from this, I have a few ideas. Perhaps some of the DB quests for this mod involve recruiting new members -- say, a thief kicked out of the guild for killing on the job. Or someone from the Blackwood Company. Yes, they were high on hist sap, but perhaps a few members didn't mind that innocents were killed. Maybe there's a mage who enjoys the destruction school of magic a little too much...

- Lyra Rosentia collects Akaviri Artifacts. Perhaps she has a relative who has an artifact, and that relative's last will and testament would bequeath the artifact to Rosentia. The quest could be a contract to hasten the inheritance of the artifact...

- The Crimson Scars are mentioned in Vile Lair. Perhaps there could be a quest to either track down the rest of the offending DB-offshoot, or reincorporate them into the Brotherhood. You could certainly have another vampire DB member - I learned a few days ago that Bethesda had the Imperial Male voice actor also record the lines for Vicente Valtiere. Perhaps, if the player did not accept Vicente's offer of becoming a vampire before the purification, another NPC DB vampire could also offer the Dark Gift.

Compatibility with other mods: To be accessible to the widest range of users, it would be important to include compatibility for mods such as Banasplit's Better Cities and the Unique Landscape mods (and even Let The People Drink). I recently installed the Waterfront Tunnel Entrence. The Tunnel isn't just a tunnel, but includes offices, and tavern-like places. I think there is opportunity here -- perhaps a DB base in the Tunnel, much like how the Morag Tong has its main base in the lowest levels of the Cantons in Vivec.

reguarding the quest ideas

I LOVE THEM

Fortsutch: that would mean you would have to finish the quest. and I dont have a quester so that might not be possible.

getting the morag tong in there would be esential.

and do you have xfire or AIM?

What is a quester?

No, I do not have an instant messaging system. However, I visit TESNexus frequently, so using the forum's Private Messaging system could work as a means of communication.

I've been looking over Fire and Darkness, The Brothers of Darkness, Sacred Witness, and the UESP article for the Morag Tong. From these sources, I've worked out a rough timeline of events pertaining to the two guilds.

1E (the First Era)

- The Morag Tong worships Sithis in addition to Mehpala

- 1E2920: Morag Tong assassinates emperor Reman (1E2920 is the last year of the first era)

2E (the Second Era)

- in the early years: Morag Tong still includes Sithis worship

- 2E324: Morag Tong assassinates Versidae-Shae

- 2E324: Morag Tong is outlawed throughout Tamriel (except in the province of Morrowind)

- 2E360: according to Blood Queen's journals (The Brothers of Darkness), the Brotherhood has been in existance since 360

- 2E430: the Brotherhood assassinates Savirien-Chorak and his relatives

The Night Mother is not associated with the Morag Tong.

- The UESP article does not mention that the Night Mother is a name used within the guild

- TES III: Morrowind's Morag Tong leader is the Grandmaster, and no references are made to anyone with the name Night Mother.

However, The Brothers of Darkness asserts that "All leaders of the Morag Tong, and then afterward the Dark Brotherhood, have been called the Night Mother." This conflict in the lore can be reconciled with information from Sacred Witness, wherein the Night Mother the author meets says "'The Morag Tong was around long before my time ... I merely hired some of their assassins when they began to fall apart after the murder of the last Potentate [Versidae-Shae].'" So, it is possible that the author of The Brothers of Darkness thought the Tong's leader was the Night Mother -- he might have been looking at the actions of those Tong members employed by the Sacred Witness's Night Mother (or any other Night Mother figure associated with the Dark Brotherhood).

The Night Mother (some preliminary thoughts)

Sacred Witness describes her as an old woman with blue eyes. However, according to UESP, Oblivion's Night Mother is Dunmer. Perhaps we can reconcile this ethereal being with Sacred Witness's little old lady and the theories that Night Mother is a title held by various women or men (as stated in The Brothers of Darkness). Maybe the first Night Mother was the little old lady, and perhaps there was at least one successor, who, by some means, became the semi-omniscient (as in, somehow knows all those names and locations of people praying to her, i.e. performing the Black Sacrament) ghostly being found in Oblivion. And where did the belief that the Night Mother was the bride of Sithis originate from? Is it like a "creation myth", where the myth is made up to explain why things are the way they are? In other words, was this belief there from the start or early years of the guild, or is this belief something that took root later to explain the hierarchy system (the five members that make up the Black Hand paralelling the belief that the Night Mother bore five children to Sithis)? I don't have any answers, but it is certainly something that needs to be ironed out.

How and why did the DB form from the Morag Tong? (my thoughts on the matter)

From The Brothers of Darkness, we learn that the Brotherhood must have been around since 2E360. This is 36 years after the murder of Versidae-Shae, after which governments of most of the Imperial Provinces outlawed and began to hunt down the Morag Tong within those provinces (except in Morrowind).

Fire and Darkness asserts that, in order to remain operational within Morrowind, the Morag Tong had to appeal the highest authority -- assumed to be the Tribunal Temple. Working under that assumption, the scholars the author mentions then go on to say that the Tong had to exchange Mephala worship for Tribubal worship. Perhaps, this is true, perhaps not: in TES III, the Morag Tong clearly worhsips Mephala. If they did originally exchange Mehpala worship for Tribunal worship, the perhaps as the Tribunal weakened, Mephala worship began to reemerge. The book goes on to say that the Night Mother that the Dark Brotherhood worhsips is actually Mephala: "The Night Mother, my dear friend, is Mephala. The Dark Brotherhood of the west, unfettered by the orders of the Tribunal, continue to worship Mehpala. They may not call her by her name but the daedra ... is their leader still. And they did not, and still do not, to this day, forgive their brethren for casting her aside." Perhaps this is the religious side to the emnity between the two guilds. From the UESP article on the Morag Tong: "[the Dark Brotherhood] turned from the original intent of the society [the Morag Tong]: [which is] to prevent massive bloodshed with selectively calculate killings" since "the Daedra forbade that the Chimer engage in open warfare with each other. Instead... the Chimer were to approach the Tong...". So, it is possible that the Tong also hates the DB because the DB is without honor? Reading on: "The Brotherhood devolved into a death cult, turning from the original worship of the patron Mephala, into worship of Sithis...".

Anyway... Fire and Darkness asserts that "The Morag Tong continues, as we know, to worship Sithis." I find this an interesting bit of information. However, nothing anywhere else ingame supports that claim. Then again, I don't know when the "book" was supposedly published, so it is possible that during the interval of time between the book's publication and the Morag Tong in TES III, the Morag Tong abandoned Sithis worship.

A few other things:

- "...no other Imperial governments recognize them [the Morag Tong] as a legal faction..." -- UESP

- "Tong executioners have been known to track their prey all across Tamriel, thanks in part to an extensive network of informants and contacts maintained by the Guild." Now this is interesting! In the TESIII Tong quests, the player had to find the name of a Dark Brotherhood informant. Perhaps a similar quest for this mod would have the player find the name of a Morag Tong informant?

- "However, the Dark Brotherhood has a monopoly on illegal assassination outside of Morrowind, and Dark Brothers have been known to abduct Tong agents wherever they find them." Another sore point between the two guilds might be that the once great and widespread Morag Tong is now second fiddle, business-wise, to the Dark Brotherhood.

- "...an 'accounting,' I have been informed, is the Brotherhood's favorite euphemism for an execution." -- The Brothers of Darkness

So, all this presents options to explore:

- the origin of the Night Mother - a mortal turned into some sort of immortal being?

- the developement of the DB's religious beliefs

- the various factors that contribute towards the emnity between the Brotherhood and the Morag Tong -- such as religious differences, differences of ideals and conduct, that sort of thing.

- various other things that my brain is too tired to think of at the moment.... :P
