Rennn
I've heard rumors that putting Steam in offline mode as you play Skyrim offers a sizeable performance increase. Does anyone know if this is correct? I would assume it is, if only because your pc isn't connected to a server constantly then, but I'm not sure just how large the performance gain is. I'm also not sure if it would help at all if your pc's weakest link is the graphics card rather than the cpu. Maybe it would still decrease load times though, since mine are fairly long after installing an ENB mod. I'll go test it. Edit:I've tested it. It's a change of about 7,000k for me. It was 10,000k, and it dropped to about 3,000k. It won't have a huge impact, but it could be helpful for people struggling for performance. Having even a single internet explorer tab open is a far bigger change however, depending on what the web page is doing. A music site, like Grooveshark, which I use to play music in the background, is 450,000k, so it takes up many, many times more performance than Steam. Werne
It slightly increases performance for those who have older comps. I always keep steam offline when playing Skyrim, it reduces stuttering and loading times a bit.
LuDux
The best way I've found to improve performance in Skyrim is to get 12GB or more of RAM, and just install Skyrim directly to RAM. All mods too, of course.

Rennn
I didn't even know that was possible. I knew about RAM disks, but not installing directly to RAM. It sounds kind of like a waste to me, unless you really, really, really love Skyrim and don't play literally any other games on that pc.

That's because it's NOT possible... and my "WTF???" statement should of been a bit more like: "WTF are you smoking???". You can't just "install to RAM"... that's not the way RAM works. I could go on for about a year listing reasons why what that guy said was just completely wrong in every way, but I settled for the WTF??? Just ignore him, as he obviously doesn't know anything at all about computers or the way they work. Could also be a troll, but that remains to be seen. I am still laughing at the concept of installing into ram,,since ram automatically clears itself when your PC shuts down...

Ricksnowy
This is the only way I plat anymore I got tired of my game crashing because it was looking for the "achievment" I was due. And it does seem to run smoother without the online LAG
Halororor
Yeah, I reckon so. I've noticed significant drops in RAM and CPU usage when in offline mode.
