MARTIAL ARTS

It is a very tricky thing to do. However there are a few attempts at providing a different combat system.

One tries to make combat more like Dark Souls for instance.

One of them is Dukes overhaul thing..

For me there are a few issues:

Melee:

We are missing

* Dodge

* Counter-Attacks

* Feints

and other actions that would require skill and timing.

I would love something more like Dark Souls with a big dose of Assassins Creeds counter attacks and reactive abilities..

I would want unarmed combat to mean something.

I want throws, head butting, kicking, kneeing, elbows, grappling as well as the possibility to evade said attacks..

I want armed combat to mean something, you should be able to use other body parts than your sword arm.

If you are wielding a single sword you should be able to hit someone, or grab them, or kick them.

And so on..

Now the biggest problem with such a system is how to control it.

How precise can you make it before it becomes tedious?

Assassins Creed uses a system where you control different body parts with different keys.

In essence you have main hand, off hand, head, and legs.

This enables a good degree of control but still lacks a way to differentiate between elbows and arms (apart from the fact that I haven't seen any elbow attacks in AC.

The "simple" way of getting this to work would be to use knees and elbows when you are at close proximity..

In short, it will take a lot of work to get something resembling martial arts..
