Nirrtix
Skyrim is the weirdest game. Only in Skyrim can disabling shadows the wrong way decrease framerates. What is the right way to turn them off or disable them to increase perforamance. They look horrid anyways and my machine is not good enough to run the game so they look good. Tair
The reality is that you CAN'T entirely disable shadows, in terms of resource management. There is no actual off switch. The engine sucks. Some users have experienced FPS gains by setting shadow draw distances (typically 3 variables) to zero in their skyrimprefs.ini fille. Others have experienced FPS loss by doing this, as you mentioned. There's no magic setting that I'm aware of.
mathorick
go into your my documents folder then my games folder open your skyrim folder then open your skyrimprefs.ini then find these settings fShadowDistance=0.0000fInteriorShadowDistance=0.0000fShadowLODStartFade=0.0000 and simply replace your current settings with those up above Edited January 26, 2012 by mathorick
