Littlefruit
Hi, I'm new to modding and I was wondering how uninstalling mods works? Can you uninstall a mod completely with Nexus Mod Manager? Also, I know that this is a safe site, but are all mods hosted on this site safe? Is that the point of endorsements to vouch for the mod's safety? Thanks for any response! Tair
I've only tested the NMM, but as far as I know, it does include a function to completely remove an installed mod. However, in my opinion, any mod worth its salt will include manual install and uninstall instructions. As far as safety goes, you should know that, in my experience, the Nexus is a site of extreme integrity. I can tell you that the mod community here is genuine, and it is backed by a staff of moderators that take the safety and integrity of the site very seriously. My advice: you can download from the Nexus with confidence, but as with any situation, always refer to your Antivirus/Malware software if you are unsure. Endorsements are generally just a way to express appreciation for a mod, or to vouch for the quality of a mod. I wouldn't necessarily look at a mod with few endorsements and say "this might be an unsafe file." Endorsements are subjective, because some mods may have a very small target audience and as a result receive very few endorsements. I hope that helps. MShoap13
NMM isn't perfect in installing or uninstalling mods so I'd recommend for you to get used to doing it manually just so you get the concept of the replacer system. Basically all it is is that the game's default resources are stored with their file structure in-tact inside the .bsa archives. When you place an uncompressed resource into the matching file with a name matching the vanilla resource, the game should automatically load it instead. For example, the texture for steel boots might be found at \Data\textures\armor\steel\steelboots.dds inside of the .bsa archive. You won't even have a \textures\ folder under the \Data\ folder on a vanilla install but if you were to create a retexture for these boots it would need to be named "steelboots.dds" and located at \Data\textures\armor\steel\. Just about any mod you find on the Nexus comes with a readme that includes manual installation instructions. If you come across a mod that doesn't have this that may be an indicator of the quality of the mod in the first place. It's wise to double check that NMM has in fact removed all resources of a mod after uninstalling through it. You'll also run into mods that belong in the root \Skyrim\ folder and NMM will not install them there, it places everything in the \Data\ folder. As far as endorsements go they're really meant for vouching for the quality/usefulness of a mod. I've yet to come across a single virused or trojaned file on the Nexus. There's a few false positives floating around out there but people generally check these out and the site administrators/moderators act pretty quickly with determining whether or not a file is in fact malware. If you must err on the side of caution pay attention to how well the description of the mod is layed out and explained, the comments section, and how long the file has been posted. If something stays up on the Nexus for more than a week or so it's generally safe to assume it's clean.

SkitsofRandom
I thought NMM was going to be a great mod manager for Fallout 3, so I downloaded, and when I went to install it my antivirus said this program could to extremely harmful things to my computer. I quickly disregarded this warning because I completely trusted Nexus with my computer's safety. When I installed my computer crashed. I then had to run Windows in safe mode then uninstall NMM, before I could use my computer again; I think Nexus is a safe site, but as far as NMM goes, I'm not using it again untill they take it out of Beta. I mean really? It could of destroyed some extremely important files on accident.
