The Skyrim Voice-Over Variation Project

The Skyrim V.V.P.

I'd like to bring more vocal variety to the guards, NPC's and other characters to Skyrim. While there is no intended slight to the voice actors who Bethesda cast, when you play the game for a few hundred hours, hearing the same voices over and over can get tiring.

PROPOSAL

==========

To record additional voice work by volunteer performers to provide a greater library for non-essential NPC's. This can also provide a resource for modders to hear other voices and potentially a library of actors to draw from to voice their mods. When working through the CK, I'll get volunteers to match the tempo of a given line delivered by an NPC so that it matches the sync file.

WORKFLOW

===========

The first step is to list all of the dialogue that is said by guards, daedra, bandits, necromancers, and any other NPC's where lip-synch is not really an issue. Central characters and alternate voices (and languages) might be a step further down the road, but it'll have to wait until v1.0 comes out. First things first.

[*] Guard Dialogue: http://www.gahnzz.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/Guard-Dialogue.docx - I don't think there is any difference between male and female guards dialogue-wise, so we'll just use this as a template and address issues as they come up. If you record anything, please send them to me in chunks to gahnzz (at) gmail.com via YouSendItor upload to your preferred online storage and I'll pull it down and organize it.

I'd ask that you use Audacity to record (it's free and available here) and use the single-channel/mono 128kbps settings. An FAQ for Librivox (a project I volunteer for) can be found here.

As readers sign up and we identify scripts, I'll edit this post to provide a list of what's done, who's recorded it, etc.

Sounds fun. I'm in, though I have an unreliable internet connection (I bounce between houses visiting family in multiple states) But I am interested, though I am no professional.

Perfection, no... Variety yes.

I do have some rudimentary Audacity experience and I can even whip up beast noises if interested.

I'd love to hear more variations in the voice acting. When playing Skyrim it's a bit jarring to hear an Altmer that sounds exactly as that Breton or Nord you met in another city. I find myself missing the flavor that Morrowind voices had for each race.

Also as a modder I'm going to be looking for voice actors myself one day. It will be nice to have a list of people who enjoy and are willing to voice act for modders.

So in short yes I'd love this.

Good to see some movement on this idea! The first step is to get all the dialogue from the guards. When the CK comes out tomorrow (!!!) I'll start pulling out the scripted lines and putting them into the document. First off, I'll do Riverwood and Whiterun which will cover those specific cities. Logically, I think there are global random for dialogue and city specific. I'll start with the city specific. Anyone else want to jump in and claim a city or hold? We'll see how it's all separated tomorrow but getting a hand transcribing stuff is the first major step.

What I'm thinking, in terms of priority to start are:

1) Guards

2) Bandits

3) Necromancers

4) Vendors

What think?
