  1. 1. What are your views on skyrim being on steam?

    • I like steam and the current system is fine.
    • I like steam, but would like the option to play my games without steam if I so choose.
    • I have had bad experiences with steam and would like the option to play my games without steam if I so choose.

I cant understand why people are yelling at steam, I am a member from steam all the way from 2008 and up and own over 40 games to be modest..

I really think skyrim benifits from steam seeing as you can easily chat with friends, post screenshots, nice way of handling achivements, and other things.

this may be just an opinion of mine, but it seems to me that most people think steam is a foreign concept if your coming from other games like oblivion..

just get over the fact that skyrim requires launching from steam, and if you really really want to play without steam, their are things that let you do so, and you could play the original version if you hate patches..... you will be missing data managment, achivements, friends, ingame chat ui and lots more if you do so, I am ending the subject there as it is against the rules to talk about anything related to bypassing steam though..

Also, about the steam work shop, TF2 Did it, and as far as mods go, its up to you to choose weather or not to host the mod on steam, its not required, if you do however and people vote it up enough to be a dlc or dlc bought mod, if I am not mistaken the creator gets a free copy of the mod for download as well as 5 other free copys for friends..

I even add games that are not from steam to steam to use the friends ui I like it so much, so would you people provide a reason for likeing or disliking it? please dont start any wars over it, just would like to understand why you people do or dont like it like it.

Hope this is the right section! Thanks!

would you please provide a reason below instead of yelling at steam and running off??

thanks!!

I voted for the middle option for the simple fact that Steam is NOT always available and I may not always have a connection to the internet. Some people are more mobile than others and end up in some pretty isolated/remote places. Also if the Zombie Apocolypse occurs I still want my computer gaming fix :)

I agree, I dont know why I voted for the first option seeing as the ability to use skyrim without steam would be good, although did you know that after the first activation of skyrim you dont need any internet connection to play? lol?

"you will be missing data managment, achivements, friends, ingame chat ui"

You can have all that an more without steam.

from what I have seen data managment setting is not allowed when you turn off steam and manage to launch it..

Sorry should have put the management out of your sentence, was talking more about the other things you mentioned, because you wrote it like they arent availiable without steam.

I voted option 3 for the following reasons:

1) Steam uses up resources for a process that does not benefit me at all.

2) Steam is a form of DRM.

3) Steam can cause problems by consuming large amounts of CPU performance, sometimes up to 50% CPU usage.

4) Steam is an unnecessary program i am forced to run while i play games.

I hate Steam for many reasons. Two of which are forced internet connections and forced auto updates. Yes, you can tell it not to auto update. But if it does update anything, those settings will revert to default. If you update, there is no way to revert back.

Steam is a great piece of software that is marred by a thick layer of crap. If it wasn't the forced updates and forced internet connection crap, I would love Steam.

I do like the Steam Workshop integration idea. It's optional and giving people choices is a great thing.

If you read the agreement here you can clearly see that Valve decides wether or not the mod is free, in their sole discretion, so there is no "vote it up to be a dlc" there is just they deciding to charge for the mod without asking for the author's permission and taking 75 % of what that dlc (no longer a mod) would make, ripping the community in a very low manner.
