Alaisiagae
So, I go to thinking, what is the Dark Brotherhood's policy on Necromancy? Well, they don't seem to have any problems with reanimating the dead, since they have the skeletal Dark Guardian patrolling the Cheydinhal Sanctuary. But what about souls and Black Soul Gems? During the Dark Brotherhood quests in Oblivion, there are several references from NPCs and the player's own dialog choices about sending souls to Sithis. So, would trapping the soul of an NPC be denying Sithis that soul? What do you think?
3rdtryguy
I have often wondered this myself. In the game it doesn't seem to really matter, but in the game world it probably would. To be more precise, I think that Sithis would be plenty mad if you trapped the soul of someone you deleted on a contract, since those souls are supposed to be his. Any other souls you got would probably not matter. It would be a consideration for roleplaying purposes, but it doesn't have any game mechanics effects, so do whatever you want. Honestly, I'm really kinda fuzzy on the whole soul trapping thing anyway. Are we really capturing souls, or are we just capturing soul energy that is shed at death? The stuff in-game that I've read seems to go either way.
