New Vegas Equipment Sets

Hey all,

Long time lurker, first time poster. I have an idea for a reasonable straightforward, but major gameplay enhancing, mod. Anyone interested in knocking this out, please be my guest!

New Vegas is already full of awesome iconic equipment that looks great when used together. The vault dweller (vault suit > armored vault suit > vault security suit, 10mm pistol, police baton, laser pistol, laser rifle), the road warrior (merc troublemaker > leather armor > reinforced leather, tire iron, sawn-off shotgun, assault rifle, molotovs), the soldier (soldier outfit, combat armor, advanced combat armor, rifles, combat shotgun, grenades etc). Problem is that the way that stats are balanced there's really no incentive to use half this stuff - cool or not, it doesn't do the job and will sometimes lead to your messy and amusing demise.

New Vegas Equipment Sets would change this by grouping all appropriate equipment together as a "kit" and mapping it to the selection wheel. So when you're using "road warrior", you're locked into road warrior preselected armor, melee and ranged weapons. As you use each item (which can be tracked as challenges), it "levels up" from one to five stars, getting better and earning special abilities, perhaps with subtle changes to the item appearance along the way. When it hits max, each item becomes a unique named weapon. Max out all the items, and you get a perk reflecting your mastery of that role. You can then retire that item onto a display mannequin \ display wall and try out a different equipment set.

This adds a nice incentive to play with ALL the major weapons and armors, not just a few. There are easily enough items to support classes like:

* Vault dweller.

* Road warrior.

* Casualwear

* Soldier

* Assassin

* Scientist

* Doctor

* Paladin

* Legionaire

* Supermutant wannabee

* Apocalyptic Marauder

* Roboticist

* Tribal Beastmaster

And potentially more, tying into popular mods like WME \ WMX, Mad Science, Robco certified etc. You could also create a scavenger hunt to gather the specific items to unlock the kit. Heck, if someone was feeling generous with their time, maybe even knock out a pipboy bobblehead of the role as a reward for mastering it, or a themed safehouse for each mastered class (imagine a road warrior safehouse in a abandoned garage, a mad science lab, legion temple - with all containers cross-linked so you could access your gear from any of them).

That's the pitch. Do with it as you will!
