AlCiao
Hello, I have Skyrim for PC, bought at midnight on 11/11. Haven't patched it or anything yet, but it's been working fine. I've been using a couple dozen mods, slowly added over the course of several weeks, and the game has picked up the habit of crashing to desktop about once an hour or two. This is not much of a problem, cuz I can reload quickly and easily. Perhaps I should get SkyEdit at some point. However, after playing 266 hours and doing everything, I decided to start a new game. However, in this new game, the game crashes more often (anywhere from 1-3 times an hour), and what's more, sometimes when I reload the saved game, it will load for maybe 5 seconds before crashing to desktop. Any attempt to reload the previous save results in this... and this often applies to the last several saves! Maybe 4 different times I've had to go back to a much earlier save and redo things. It's very annoying, and I don't know why it's happening. I tried turning off all my mods, but the problem persists -- at least the occasional crashing problem, not sure about the corrupting problem. What's going on? Could it be conflicting mods? Is this something that getting SkyEdit could fix? Thanks so much for your help!
Werne
SkyEdit is not developed enough to be used as a tool for making a merged patch. It's still in beta, I tried it out but it seems it's quite limited. As for the crashing, try turning off the autosaves, they tend to mess up with the saves and your game. And you probably have a mod conflict, judging by the crashing.
Korodic
sounds like a mod conflict, as for corruption, that could be plenty of things. I would skip any testing and just back up the saves that are not corrupt (hope you made plenty back up saves). Then do a FRESH install from steam or where ever. Add the mods you actually want/NEED, and be very aware of what each mod does/entails. That really tends to solve many problems. You may have caused these issues by editing some game settings (like .ini files or whatever) and such as some mods require. As for the crashing that might also be because your computer specs? Thanks to both of you for your prompt advice! I didn't know that about SkyEdit, thx for the info. Skibblets, I think I will try your suggestion - and I always make multiple back up saves, lol! Usually I never need them, but it's paid off in this game. ^-^
VaKhajDar
I personally set every autosave option off and only save via console...this allows to name the save whatever you want and keep better track of your saves just type "save savename" in console and hit enter, to enter console, hit the button left of your

Well, turning off the auto save... I've found myself to become very appreciative of the 3 autosaves. I found myself many times having to go back 3 due to a bugged quest. For example I was doing the Arniel Endevours quest. I went into a tavern, talked to a guy who assigns a random location (radiant quest system) and then I went to the location and my objective wasn't even there (a character who should have spawned did not). My autosaves:entered innexited innfast traveled The guy wasn't there. Loaded back to "entered inn" Didn't fix my problem in this case but other times it did :)

The autosave has saved my skin a few times. DarkSoul, I always save via the console, have ever since Oblivion. ^-^ I do have another question -- I have heard that new textures and meshes will never cause crashing or conflict (any conflict in different textures to the same clothing or whatever will just overwrite the previous one)... is this correct? I can include as many retextures as I want? And what about meshes? Thanks again. =)
