Fallout 4 quests not triggering.

I have an issue wherein for whatever reason, many quests will not trigger.

Let me start at the beginning... I started another play through, and spent 65 levels solely devoted to opening settlements. Once I had initiated the vast majority, I decided to get some companion quests done. I was going to start with Danse, in order to get the BoS there.

When I got to the police station, there were only a couple of ghouls left (which I had killed most of them previously whilst bypassing earlier) Danse would only say "Check your fire, we've got hostiles!", which is a glitch many have had, and Bethesda has ignored. However, I used setstage to get passed that portion of the quest, then realized I needed to go do Reunions.

Reunions went well up until the trigger for Kellogg to speak over the intercom, which he never did, and I had to again, use setstage, to pass it.

After awhile I did Daisy's quest at the Library, however, when I got there and tried using the intercom to access the side door, once activated, it responded in a settler's voice with "Yes?" and 'Huh?". Suffice it to say, I had to pick the lock, however, ALL the supermutants were already dead inside...

Then if that's not bad enough, I later had gone to Salem, where I found Barney's quest not triggering.

I have checked Loot, and am about to check Fo4Edit, but before I do, has anyone else experienced a similar situation? It would help to narrow my issue down.

Bethesda? Screwed Up? I find that very difficul to believe. You'll be telling us next that there are bugs in the game.

Sorry that I can't help with your problem, I had that bug with the Danse mission and I'm now having problems with Molecular Level. Good luck though.

@snapper69 Lol when Todd said "It just works!" must have been talking about how the money gets into their bank accounts. Though to be fair, in my experience, other than this play through the bugs have been minimal. The odd floating Yao Guai, cars falling from overpasses due to them spawning over empty space, ai pathing, random settlement issues, Power Armor reset bug, etc., etc...wait...

What's funny is, when I did the Earl Sterling quest, and went to turn it in with Ellie...her head was missing in the cut scenes.

I think, from now on, I'll refer to the game as "Fallout 4: Setstage".

  • 1 month later...

Started a new play through, while avoiding Minutemen this time (though I did Concord, and got them to Sanctuary), to go through Nuka World as a raider. Gained levels doing random things/side quests, till about mid 30's. Then started BOS, which went without a hitch. I figured maybe game was running well, and the previous play through was just glitched...or so I thought.

Went to do Reunions...same issue. There was no Kellogg voice over the intercoms, had to setstage.

I give up, thinking I'll shelve the game.

After a lot of fiddling I finally found the issues.

One mod being "Simple Inventory Improvements", removed the clothing from the Diamond City Security. Which I was using for the ability to use any armor on any clothing, but will have to find an alternate now.

The second mod issue was "Vault Girl Laura" (companion) which had I seen the bug section earlier, I would have known it caused vanilla quests to break, some of which I experienced. Hind sight is 20/20 I guess.

BTW, I know it's way late for this topic, the problem with Danse at least can happen even in an unmodded game. The quest gets stuck when a ghoul glitches through the ground during one of their lunging attacks, usually occurring for me when I delay going to the station but pass close enough to hear the battle one or more times. Danse won't respond to you until all the ghouls are dead and you can't find the missing ghoul. Using setstage to bypass the quest trigger seems to cause as many problems as it solves so I would recommend using the console command kah (Kill All Hostiles) in this case. This kills the hidden ghoul(s) and Danse will talk to you.
