Plan for several playthroughs

I finished playing Fallout 3 just as New Vegas came out so I decided to wait for the (as it is now called) the ultimate edition. Now I'm preparing for that being released. Althout I played F3 on PS3 I will get NV on the PC, so I can use mods.

I have just spent 400+ hours (according to Steam) playing Skyrim and have really enjoyed playing three very different characters (Mage,Warrior, Thief) following completely different quest lines APPROPRIATE TO THEIR SKILLS. I'm not big on repeating myself so it was great to find enough to do to bring my character up to level 30-40 without much overlap of quest / dungeons. I even have enough virgin dungeons left over to bring up a 4th character but I will wait until there are more and better mods for that.

Now my question. I want to start NV playing a stealth sniper but I expect I will want to play other roles as well. Can I break down the exploration so that I concentrate on the main quest, then mainly tasks that are appropriate for a stealth sniper, leaving others for a future playthrough. I will have all the DLC - is it a good idea to divide that up? What advice do people have?

I will be making full use of wikis etc (tho not walkthroughs) so I'm not too worried about being spoiled and will be able to make sense of Quest Names if anyone suggests a breakdown.

Thanks
