blurayven
Hello all. This is my first time playing around with the creation kit. I just built my first gaming PC and I wanted to try something I thought would be easy. I've managed to locate the lettering in the CK. File, data and load DLCworkshop1. The lettering you find in the settlement workshop menu under decorations>wall decorations>lettering. I want to create a number of pre-made words like the suffix' for Legendary items, ammo types and other pre made words so I wont have to select each letter o n e at a time. But I can't seem to figure out how to edit the premade words into something else. I started to labels all of these footlockers then I gave up, It just takes to dam long. damanding
There's a couple of approaches you can take to this, either make your own labels from scratch for which you'd need a simple flat rectangle mesh and make your own textures for it. Or if you like the workshop labels, you can basically combine the vanilla meshes together using a program like Outfit Studio and save the combo as a new mesh. Then you'd make a new static object in the CK and a constructible object to get it into the workshop menu. So depending on whatever skills you already have or would be easiest to learn for you. damanding
I also stumbled on this mod while searching for something entirely different. http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/10271/?After a quick search, this modder's resource might also be useful: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/8166
blurayven
That post-it-note mod is pretty cool but I'm looking at making workshop labels. I'll try that route. Where can I get the pre made individual letter meshes from?
damanding
You can use either the Archive tool in the Fallout 4/Tools folder or download Bethesda Archive Extractor to unpack the vanilla label meshes from DLCworkshop01 - Main.ba2. The meshes are in Meshes\DLC02\SetDressing\Workshop\SmallLetters. You just drag and drop the letter meshes you want into Outfit Studio, click the button at the top that has a circle and arrows, that lets you move meshes around. Once you have what you want, you export as a new nif file. I suggest looking at some tutorials on Creation Kit basics such as how to make/load your own esp, how to add new static objects and constructible objects. I have a rough draft of a tutorial on making static clutter that I'm not quite ready to publish. If you want to be my guinea pig for it and offer feedback I can PM it to you. :)
blurayven
For some reason there isn't a DLC02 folder in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 4\Data\Meshes, unless I'm looking in the wrong meshes folder. And I'll be you guinea pig, all modders gotta start ast the in noob land
damanding
That's the path for the files you want inside the archive, not in your data folder. Don't unpack them to your data folder, unpack them somewhere else on your hard drive. The new meshes you create will go in your game's data folder under Meshes though. Whatever folder structure you want to use for your mod. I recommend Meshs/ModName/your files since you aren't doing replacers, they don't need to follow the vanilla path. blurayven
Im having to download something called QT5, BEA says it won't install without it. I think that counselor I spoke to was right when she said I should go into IT. Gruffydd
Another option, especially if you're just looking for a set of labeled footlockers, would be to edit the texture for the footlocker in a program like GIMP or Photoshop, and add on the labels using whatever font you wanted (there are a number that look similar to the label letters here, or you could use stencil, or create an inverse for any font, etc.). Then, save the texture as a new texture (don't forget to convert back to .dds), duplicate the mesh and material of the existing footlocker, and reset the various file names so that the mesh and material point to the new texture. There's probably a way in the CK to just assign the new texture to the object, but I don't use the CK so I wouldn't be able to tell you for sure. kitcat81
You can also use nifskope to browse meshes and to copy them. Does not require unpacking in this case . You just go "file-browse-archive- Fallout 4 meshes (in your case DLC archive), find any meshes you like and save them with another name.
