No Love For Oblivion?

With the armor items being ported from TES IV to TES V (Iron Maiden, and Eisen), why aren't we seeing the nice armors from Skyrim being brought into Oblivion?

Is it that it can't be done, or will they not look good in Oblivion maybe?

I would love to see the Triss armor or the Triss/Dragon Hunter version brought over.....just a thought.

Makes me wish I had the time to learn how to mod.

Most the armors ported into Skyrim from Oblivion are player creations, there has not really been any new really good armors for skyrim that are not based on new meshes/textures so they cannot be ported to Oblivion and distributed legally.

Triss could probably be done quite easy though.

Aha! I knew if I asked then someone would know the answer.

So what about it Oblivion community? Does anyone want to take on porting over the Triss armor?

I was talking to Psyke23 about his retextures of the Triss armor on Skyrim Nexus and he thought it would be worthy, but didn't know how to do it. He suggested I ask someone on the Forums if it could be done.

Is it possible? My concern (apart from any legal issues) is that the Skyrim stuff looks a lot more.....textured and can't be brought over to Oblivion. Won't know unless it's tried (which it may already have and I not know about it) hehe.

It would be much appreciated if something like the Triss armor could be brought over here.....

I highly doubt that it would be impossible, its just a matter of finding someone who is interested in and willing to take on such a conversion project.

As far as vanilla material goes, it is illegal to directly port vanilla material to ANY other games. Basically, everything has to be recreated from scratch simply for legal reasons.

So basically, possible but plausibility is relative. Wish I could be more help!

Well,

As an update, I got the ok from Fouracres and AdamC123 to try to port their Triss DragonHunter armor from Skyrim to Oblivion and came up with a big goose egg.

I loaded the texture and mesh files into my Data folder like I do normally, but it had no data plugin. I thought I could do a 'player.additem' but it said it couldn't find the script. Maybe a data plugin is needed?

Emmmm.... porting means re-work, not just copy into a specific data folder.

Principally both Skyrim and Oblivion use the NIF format for their meshes. But these formats differ considerably. So it was necessary to change Nifskope (the tool to read and visualize meshes) for Skyrim. But if you open an Oblivion mesh with this Skyrim-NifSkope it will throw an error. The same (or a CTD) would happen if used in-game.

Clever people have figured out how to tweak an Oblivion mesh for use in Skyrim. I'm not sure if anyone has found out yet, how to convert from Skyrim to Oblivion. And for which price (effort).

There's a Triss armor for Oblivion already. It's a direct game rip though so i'm not sure if it's allowed here.

I'm pretty sure if you look good enough, especially on mediafire, you will find it very easily.

Thanks all. I believe I have the one from Mediafire now. Unfortunately I've been looking at it with TES4Edit to find out how to actually get in-game. I believe it's a quest, but not sure. I have received the clothing, but not the armor.

Again, thanks to all for your input and helping me understand the complexities (sp?) of converting a non vanilla item from Skyrim to Oblivion.

I believe that one day it'll happen. I'll wait until then.
