stebbinsd
Ok, brace yourselves, everybody, because this is going to be a complicated issue to describe. I hope I can adequately communicate this to you. I originally played Skyrim on the 360. I modified my controls only a slight amount, so that the back button brought up the character menu while the B-Button brought up the wait menu. However, on 360, the B-Button also canceled out of the wait menu. Presumably, this change in control caused by "B" button to become the new "back" button, both in-game and in-menu. I spent several years playing with this control scheme, both on 360 and later when I switched to PC. This control scheme has become engrained in my head. Trying to play Skyrim using any other gamepad-based control setup is like AVGN having to press B to jump rather than A. It's been years since I did this, but I think the reason I originally changed it like that was so that the Skyrim controls mirrored the default controls for Oblivion. I remember B being wait and back being my inventory in Oblivion, so I changed it for Skyrim so it wouldn't have to re-train my brain for the new controls. However, after coming back to Skyrim after a brief hiatus, I've realized my SkyUI has automatically updated itself. When I alter the controls so that back pulls up the character menu and B pulls up the wait menu. But there's a problem: Pressing B no longer exits out of the menu! I have to press Back to exit out the menu! So, when I change the in-game controls to my liking, the menu controls stay at their defaults! This is insanely confusing, and it forces me to play with a keyboard and mouse, something I don't like to do if I can help it. But what's really bizzare about this is that the keyboard and mouse layout still has corresponding menu controls! If I change the controls so that spacebar is the "activate" key (again, mirroring Oblivion's default PC controls so I don't have to re-train my brain), then I can pick up and read a book using the spacebar. To take that book and add it to my inventory, the on-screen instructions tell me to press E, but in fact, the spacebar is what causes me to take the book. Because when I change the in-game controls, the in-menu controls change along with them! So why can't we do the same thing with the gamepad controls?! I've tried downloading one of the older versions of SkyUI. Version 4.0 to be exact. But the problem still persists. Does anyone know what's the latest version of SkyUI that still gives me the corresponding controls for gamepad?
