How to make an ESP file player specific?

I noticed that some modders make esp files "player only" instead of a mod affecting NPC's as well. Does this depend on the type of mod? If this requires me to take a huge pilgrimage across the internet, I'm just going to drop this. I searched this on google and the site specifically and found nothing.

Similar to the desert succubus mod in new vegas. The playable character has a different body and assigned texture than the NPC's. I'm trying to give my player a particular body, while keeping the NPC's with the default or another type 3 body, or vice versa. thanks

The way I did it was to create a Custom Race. Searching Nexus for Custom Race will bring up plenty of info. With the new race you could change NPCs to this race or create new ones with this new race OR leave it unreferenced then no NPC will look like that race but it will be available as a choice of race during the birth scene (you could change a current player's race using the console but doesn't that mess up stats...).

Works fine without an issue with most other mods. Do read the helpful instruction carefully though, for example you need to create a child template of your race, and especiallly if you are wanting to use custom hair mods etc.

Could be a simpler way but I haven't seen any through all my reading of Nexus. Second best is to change the model for the race you are playing as, but that would change every adult NPC, except raiders, of that race too.

Good luck,

Scott
