Rydis
Is it even worth doing. I like playing at 4k, and even dropping to 1440p makes it look blurrly to me. I also like vivid's texture packs. However, because im at 4k on a 1070, I play with medium/high settings. And I think using the 4k retextures might hurt the fps. So the question/s is, is there a benefit to using a 2k texture pack when playing at 4k? will it just be lower quality then or would I be forced into using the 4k textures. And if thats the case, what do you think generally provides a better visual. 4k with 2k textures, or 1440p with 4k textures?
jones177
In this game 4k is better. The textures are already 2k vanilla. I have yet to see a pixelated texture when the game is behaving. 4k textures are not going to improve the look unless they are going to produce a different look. I use two GTX 980 tis & all but AA is on ultra. This game does not need anything at these settings. By contrast the first thing I did with Skyrim SE was add Reshade. That game will need some textures as well. I also have a computer with a 3440 X 1440 monitor. This is the only game that I prefer 4k over the wide screen. There are more "near distant" objects in this game than any other I have owned. The 1080 center of your 4k screen is is filled detail. This it what looks blurry at 1440 & mudy at 1080. With a 1070 it really doesn't matter. You have the vram to use 4k textures even at 4k resolution. Performance only degrades over time quicker with them. Moraelin
Well, ANYTHING will look better at the monitor's native resolution, and anything less will be upscaled and look blurry. Essentially if you drop it to 1440 on a 2160 line monitor, it will be rendered in 1440, and then the bitmap will be scaled to 2160. Usually by the monitor, and badly, although setting it to be scaled by the graphics card ain't much better. One reason being that, as you may notice, the two aren't even multiples of each other. So, yeah, if you have a 4k monitor, you'll get the better image by playing in 4k. Lowering the texture resolution to 2k doesn't have NEARLY as big an impact on graphics quality as being in the wrong resolution for that monitor. Personally I'd say 2k textures isn't particularly awful for playing in 4k anyway. The reason being that you have 2160 lines vertically. If something is occupying your whole vertical image, then you're basically getting the 2k textures. Anything less than being really zoomed in, you get a reduced size mip-map as the texture anyway. Basically you can set 4k, 8k or whatever textures, you're still getting a 2k mipmap on most things. You have to be basically with yoir nose against a door to actually get it rendered with a 4k texture.
