Krawll
Funny, you guys who kill your horses. I've never ridden a horse off a small cliff or had a big fall. You sound like someone who just wrecked their car and is complaining that cars aren't invincible. Also, my owned horses always appear when I fast travel, as long as it's to a place where horses are permitted. Other than those points, I don't much like having a horse in this game without using the mod that makes them able to outrun other wildlife. Otherwise, they don't really serve a purpose and can be annoying and won't let you fire an arrow and mounting and dismounting times outweigh any time saved by riding. Well actualy i'm a very good driver in real life but in this game , horses are hard to get used to when it comes to steering them. As for getting them killed by falling off a cliff, try to picture this, i'm climbing a hill on my horse which i'm sure everybody who ever had a horse in this game did at least once since horses tend to be able to climb in places where you wouldn't normaly be able to climb without one. Once i reach the very rocky and uneven summit, well lets just say what goes up MUST come down right ? so i'm trying to steer my way slowly through the rocky surface going down the hill but then i find myself on top of a rock thats about 15 feet high, no easy path down neihter to my right or my left and even if there was, if i try to go backwards, my horse goes forward, if i try to turn my horse still goes forward , no matter what button i press, my horse will go forward and there is not enough surface on that rock to allow me to make a complete turn around so my horse just simply walked off the edge of that rock and took the 15 foot fall and died. Now i understand that Bethesda tryed hard to make this game as realistic as possible but they failed miserably in many areas and i could easily name a few but since this thread is about horses, lets just keep it on horses. Everybody knows that horses can turn on themselves without necessarily moving forward at the same time right ? RIGHT??? everybody watched at least one or two Cowboy movies in their lives or saw horses in real life . A horse CAN walk backwards and can turn without moving forward so making it impossible to do so in this game is just plain stupid. Not to mention the very poor running animations on horses in this game. I was realy and still am realy dissapointed in the those animations . Seeing how they did an awesome job at animating other creatures , you can definatly tell that they had the potential to do the same with horses but it seems to me like the person who was in charge of modeling and animating horses never even seen a single horse in his entire life. It's incredible how they managed to do an AMAZING job animating dragons which don't even exist in real life even though it would be physicaly impossible for a dragon to hover in one place while flying because of their enormous bodies, they would have to be moving at all times in order to remain in the air , i can still live with that . But my point is that those creatures don't even exist so they had to improvise and they did an amazing job. When it comes to horses , all they had to do was watch them on TV and study them a bit before creating the animations for them and they couldn't do it . So anyways , in most games , mostly MMOs , when you get your first horse, it represents a great improvement and you're generaly very happy to FINALY have a horse. Thats simply not the case in skyrim. faifh
Skyrim horses are just different, they got all the forward and advancement mindset into them, they just refuse to stand or even go backward. (I had a horse taken from one of the forts I took over, funny thing always wanted to walk back to fort, so no matter where I fast traveled to, I always saw the back of my horse going someplace else)
Sanbru
Yeah, I have run into horses owned by bandits I have killed. Every time I ride them, and then dismount to trot off back to where I found them. Should make a mod where you can find wild horses, catch them and sell them too the stables outside of cities. GoodfellowGoodspring
It is a bit stupid, i was expecting Skyrim to have more AI such as when you kill the owner of a house/horse it becomes yours, or maybe by stealing the documents to own the item. That would have required Bethesda to ADD features, not take them away. And that's just not their M.O. these days.
alex61821
I'm going to guess that most people don't want to use this method, however if you just want a horse that wont keep trying to return to a stable/camp and don't mind spawning one, you can spawn Karinda using the console. She(?) is the color of the Whiterun Stables horse and has no saddle. She doesn't exist anywhere in the game as far as I can tell, I'm guessing she was originally going to be part of a quest or something (since Whiterun Stables is the only stable with less than 2 horses) but never made it in. Base ID is 5F865. If you type "player.placeatme 5F865 1" into the console, without quotes, it will place her at you. I cant thank you enough that horse is perfect. it stays right where you dismount it doesnt try and fight everything it only runs a short distance away when it is scared. it is perfect and even bareback like i wanted. i must say Forsworn Super Skimpy CBBE version and bareback riding is worth the price of admission. once again thank you so much and kudos to you. WildDragonfly
Funny, you guys who kill your horses. I've never ridden a horse off a small cliff or had a big fall. You sound like someone who just wrecked their car and is complaining that cars aren't invincible.Seriously? I've had a horse die from jumping over a log, it continued to float along the path and died upon landing. They also they tend to randomly float up into space at times and die upon falling back down. You don't ride the horses often, or you've just been super lucky. I really enjoy the horses of Skyrim with an essential mod for them. I certainly agree that you should be able to obtain ownership of someone else's horse, hopefully that will be something implemented in the future if it requires the CK. thesapien
I've only ridden a horse once in real life and don't remember much about it except that it was a lot different than I'd imagined before riding. So maybe that just makes me more cautious. Backing up and/or spinning in place was awkward. Nothing you do is passive, like when sitting in a car, because you have to move with the horse, even learn to anticipate and feel it's changes in rhythm, else you'll just be off balance and struggling to hold on, confusing the horse as well. So without practice I just stick to easy areas while mounted. Anytime I venture off a beaten path, I dismount and have my horse wait. So, yes, I was serious about never killing any of my horses in Skyrim. Also, I kind of like the way you can't just steal a horse and have it be automatically loyal to you. Horses are companions. GuardianofLight137
If you want Frost, or any horse to have better stats without downloading mods, (and don't mind using console commands.) Then follow these instructions, and ANY horse can match, or even BEAT Shadowmere. Step 1: Get a horse.Step 2: Press ~Step 3: Click the desired horse.Step 4: Type. forceav health (Desired number) DO NOT include the ()Step 5: Type. forceav stamina (Desired number)Alternativly, you can use setav, but this MIGHT NOT stay the next time you load the game. But it has less of a chance of glitching your horses stats. Yes there are some bugs with this, and I don't know what to do about them. One more step, but be EXTREMLY careful with this one.Step 6: Type. setav speedmult (Desired number. Recomended 150.) This will make your horse faster. And yes I do mean speedmult, NOT speedmultiply. It's very picky about this. At this setting, the horse should walk faster than your player can run. Word to the wise, watch out for ramp like obsticals. Horses are known to go flying above their normal speed setting. Which the default is 100 for all things. WARRNING! Above the 300 speedmult setting, you are risking a crash. Trust me.
jb1110
I know this is an old thread, but I have just created a "More Vanilla Horses" mod and plan to expand it to capturing wild horses, taming them, and selling them to local stables. I've also added stables and plan to make them more realistic with tack stalls and arenas. Where I keep running into issues with CK is the change of ownership I need to have happen once the player rides the horse. I want the player to have to sneak up on it, but once they ride it (after a short bucking scene) the horse will submit and it will belong to the player and do everything a bought horse will do. If anyone has any tips for me about which AI packages I need to use, that would be helpful.
