I was messing around in the Oblivion.ini file trying to make all cyrodiil and all structers visible. I got every structer (Forts, Ruins, Wells, Keeps, Cities, houses and large stuff like docks) only "sometimes" they appear jet-black. Also the objects & items & actors fade way to fast, like 5 feet in front of me -_- Ive uploaded a video to youtube with these problems for a more understandable aspect on this problem. bben46 Posted March 23, 2008 Share Posted March 23, 2008 I bet you didn't save your original Oblivion.ini before you started did you? The easy way is to rename it to something like Oblivion_ini.old. But that is not the problem now. Next time, make a save and print it out for reference so you can change things back if needed. Always back stuff up before making any changes. The best explanation I have found for the options in the .ini file are here: http://www.tweakguides.com/Oblivion_1.html The author, Koroush Ghazi, not only tells you what to change, but why and what to expect from each one along with a lot of pictures. I highly recommend his entire site - there are tweak guides for many other games besides Oblivion, plus, Vista, XP, various video cards and other stuff. Ideas, make a save of what you have now, save the \Oblivion\data as something like \oldata. save the Documents and settings\...\My Games\Oblivion to something like \Oldoblivion (this saves you current oblivion.ini too) Then uninstall and reinstall. Then before patching start and make a save. - this initializes some stuff in the ini file. Now install SI and the latest patch. Again start and make a save . Now backup your oblivion.ini and you will have a reference for when you make changes. You can put the original \data and \My Games\Oblivion back, but I recommend saving the new ones so you will have them available in the future. Vagrant0 Posted March 24, 2008 Share Posted March 24, 2008 Not sure what you did exactly, some of what you are seeing may be because of values that were changed that shouldn't have been. The other part of it may be that your videocard can't handle all that you're trying to throw at it, so it is having a harder time keeping track of data. Meaning that you're trying to use up more of your video RAM than what you have. The reason why buildings are hidden when you go too far away is because most videocards cannot handle having more than a few cells loaded in memory at a time. By making use of LOD, less complex buildings and landscape can be used to make up for this without losing too much. Rather than trying to increase the cells to be loaded to get around buildings which seem to vanish when far away, and running into these problems, you may want to considder using a mod that has distant versions of those buildings established (like Everything Visible When Distant). Or just accepting that this is part of how the game works, and is probably in place for a reason. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

As suggested, it could happen after installing AEVWD. I had the same issue time ago installing it.Better is copying the oblivion_default.ini which you have in your oblivion folder on the desktop renaming it oblivion.ini and then moving it in your my games\oblivion folder overwriting the pre-existent.Otherwise you have to reinstall oblivion deleting any occurence of it before..
