SilverAxe001
W1 has awesome plot but after getting used to W2 and W3 the combat system in W1 became inconvinient. Is there a way to change combat system in W1 for more action oriented like in W2 and W3?
BlickJustice
There is no way for that definitely. The Witcher 1 is built on the modified Bioware's Aurora engine that had been originally used for Neverwinter Nights. CDPR did a lot of work to improve the engine, but there's always a limit of what can be done with it. The closest to the idea of combat system rework are Flash Mod or FCR (Full Combat Rebalance) which were created by the same person. Let's talk about FCR because it's the latest and more developed of these two, it changes and reworks basically the whole combat system, but the basics are still the same as in the vanilla, because you can't do more on this engine. I also encourage to accept the TW1 combat as it is and to appreciate what the developers did with it- you have six different fighting styles, all with unique and cool animations, it's great to see different fighting moves when you fight against an armoured knight, a simple swamp drowner or the mighty Koshchey. Not to mention that in the first game you can fight most monsters with steel as it was in the books-it's less effective than silver, sure, but you can still do it, whereas in the next games the developers made it that steel doesn't have an effect on a ghoul or a drowner-not lore-friendly at all. The first Witcher game is different than the next installments not only in combat system, but also in areas like the atmosphere, and I think it's the good thing it is so. And the combat itself is easier to accept once we get over the fact it's different than let's say, action-oriented rolling around like in TW2, which fortunately was improved and expanded in TW3.
