Help with Gimp retextures

I am brand new to modding and to using Gimp. I created my 1st mod, a retexture of the Dragonbone Armor with a Black a Red theme using Gimp. Mod can be found here: http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6420

I am not really pleased with how the red turned out. I think it is too bright but can't seem to figure out how to darken the Red color. The settings I changed were the Color Balance (Red -40, Green & Blue -100) and Brightness -10. I would like to add an optional file with darker red color. That gives people a choice. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

If you are not pleased with it you should have spent some more time with the re-colour before uploading  . If you wish for it to be darker than you can simply adjust it in the curve tool (be it through value or red). Click on the 'colors' tab and than click 'curves...'

You can adjust the line to make the red to your liking.
