Marcus Wolfe
WOAH WOAH WOAH! I learned in my bio class that animals consume plants and other animals to get carbohydrates. All life forms (including plants), by process of cellular respiration, turn carbohydrates into energy, carbon dioxide and water, using up oxygen in the process. It looks like this: C6H12O6 + 6 O2 = energy + 6 H2O + 6 CO2 So where do carbohydrates come from? A process you have known about for a long time: Photosynthesis in plants is the only way to produce carbohydrates. Interestingly enough, Photosynthesis is the chemical opposite of cellular respiration: energy + 6 H2O + 6 CO2 = C6H12O6 + 6 O2 So, no, you can't possibly eliminate the need to eat. Unless of course you can make humans capable of photosynthesis.
evilkoal
that would be COOL!! i want leaves for hair :D we would become SPRIGGANS!!! hahaha. that would be teh shet for me :) never have to eat, just photosynthesize.
Marcus Wolfe
Actually, that's still debatable. Plants need nitrogen (I suppose that it is a catalyst in the photosynthesis) to grow, and they usually get it from nitrogen compounds in the soil. Since we don't have roots and cannot absorb nitrogen compounds through our feet, we would still have to eat a lot of foods with a high nitrogen content. evilkoal
or, just breathe a lot of nitrogen :) yay@ nitro tanks lol you know air is mostly nitrogen?
Marcus Wolfe
Yes, I know that. I also know that it is completely useless to living organisms with the exception of certain bacteria. These bacteria will attach the nitrogen to another element to form a nitrogen compound, which in turn can be used by plants.
Triforce1
i was wondering how other people feel about genetic engineering in general, and genetic engineering on humans. my opinion on it is that it is amazing!imagine being able to be ten feet tall with two sets of all your vital organs, lungs that can process other substances than air, stomaches (sp?) that can digest anything, honeycomb bone structures, very fast regeneration, and stuff like that. imagine what we could become as a species! there would be all sorts of genetically modified humans, all sorts of subspecies. our armies would be unstoppable. people could potentially live for thousands of years, but then there could be drastic consequences, such as people not being able to interbreed, and all sorts of undesirable mutations. when i actually get around to going to college, i am going to try to go into some sort of genetic engineering/genetic sciences field, and i was just wondering what people thought of it :)Good God man! I venture from the safety of the Oblivion forums and look what I find! A guy who thinks being ten feet tall and thousands of years old would be cool! Then, as a tiny little afterthought, remarks upon the dangers of such things. And not only that, but he plans to go to college in the field of genetic engineering!? I think I'll just go back to the Oblivion forum and wonder what kind of contorted future humans are headed for...
Marcus Wolfe
That's right little man, RUN! Flee back to the safety of the oblivion forms....
Triforce1
Little man? LITTLE MAN?! :verymad: You dare condescend towards the mighty wielder of the Triforce of Power ?! I will smite you where you stand! Well, maybe later. But expect your world to be turned to darkness within the month!
Marcus Wolfe
But it will do no good...for I can see in the dark! Getting back to the topic.... You could not improve human eyesight without A) increasing the size of eyes or B)compromising one aspect of vision
evilkoal
or cut out the eyeballs, and replace them with eagle eyes? they have 20/1 vision i believe it is :)
