voidster
Hi folks, normally i can solve problems like this by tweaking INI files or etc. However im at a loss at this point. Ill explain. my machine is an older 3Ghz dual core machine running 8 Gig ram, a GTX 460 and win 7 64. I have the settings on High with 2xAA and 8xAF. I run several mods, two scripts and one of the dx9 dll's to improve lighting and such. I load a save, i get on average around 30 FPS outside. Def playable, easy to fight, shoot etc. I go into a building/dungeon etc, FPS smooths out, im not sure what the peak is but its def smoother. I return outside, do more things. Go back into a building, do things there and come out. This is where the problem is. Seems to happen with in 20 min or so of starting the sim. The FPS outside drops to 1/2 of what it used to be. Its like im trying to play on a 1ghz box or something. It effects the mouse, all controls, basically unplayable. If i go right back into the building or etc my FPS returns to its high state. I save, quit to the main menu, reload ..same thing. when i quit the sim (eg exit to desktop) and restart/reload things straighten up for a while. Eventually it starts this again though. Vsync sounds like the solution but, its not recommended due to all the other problems it creates. ive tried the ENB side of things and limited the FPS to 40, thinking maybe it was trying to go over my gfx cards limit or something. Same result. Ive removed ENB, all non needed dx files and scripts. Same problem. I thought it might be thermal related, but my CPU stays about 30C and my GPU hits about 43C. I have the side of the case off and one of those cheap 10 buck desktop fans blowing on the side. Looks terrible but my machine doesn't complain. then other times i can go on for hours and not have any problems. Can anyone make an educated guess as to how to fix this? Im going to try to simply delete both the ini files, let the launcher remake them and add in only a few tweaks to make things look better. At this point im willing to accept block shadows etc just to get a session to run more than 20 min a pop. id appreciate any input. Er but please dont insult/flame or go text police, ive had my fill of that this week. :/
GreekIrish
Do you use Skyboost or TESVAL?
voidster
Do you use Skyboost or TESVAL? i haven't tried those, do they help quite a bit?
KarthGalin
Do you use Skyboost or TESVAL? i haven't tried those, do they help quite a bit? Heavily cpu-limited scenes show enormous framerate improvements. The worst spot I could find gained an (average over 60 seconds) 47% improvement over vanilla with Skyboost r3. If you use Skyrim Script Extender, use TESVAL, if you don't, use Skyboost. Skyboost is better, but doesn't work well with Skyrim Script Extender. Also, both will have a huge boost on your performance. You won't even believe how much better it will run. Most of the time.

I was using SKSE after installing Skyboost and was wondering "why am I noticing little difference?" Now I know to use SkyrimLauncher. What? Skyboost r3 works just fine with SKSE. Just don't use TESVAL and Skyboost at the same time and expect things to act right.
voidster
well ive tried both of those options and my issue is still there. Did see a good improvement on overall fps, but once i zone back out into the "world" after being in a dungeon or etc, my FPS drops down to well below 30. Ive reset my INI files and only modified a few things (nothing about memory etc, just lowered shadow rez and such) and had the same result. *scratches head* Only thing left are mods. Hmm, i might try that borderless window mod, see if that helps any.
flobalob
I found that I was suffering in a similar manner when in the walled towns. What has mostly fixed it for me was lowering the particle count. OLD[Particles]iMaxDesired=750 NEW[Particles]iMaxDesired=250 Doesn't have any noticeable effect on the wildlands or dungeons, but it definately made visits to Whiterun less painfull. I have noticed that the game engine leaks memory MUCH less now too.
