Creation Kit causing problems

Ok- I searched and couldn't find a forum that wasn't two years old...
I wanted to try to make a mod- so I downloaded steam's creation kit. It wouldn't launch, saying "preparing to launch creation kit" that box would show up and vanish and show up and vanish. So That's the first problem...

Well NOW Skyrim won't load. It'll load the launcher- I click 'play' and it says "preparing to launch SSE" then, show up the launcher box again with the 'play- options- support- exit" options... Did I kill my skyrim too? now neither of them work PLEASE HELP!

I haven't tried SSE yet today, but I noticed it auto-updated when I logged in. Here's to hoping they didn't screw it all up again.

As far as CK goes, you need the new CK 64 for SSE, and that's only available via the bethesda.net launcher. Download the launcher and sign in, and there should be two CK icons. One for Skyrim SE and one for Fallout 4. Make sure you click the right one. Off the top of my head, I think Fallout is green, Skyrim is black, but double check that. From that icon, you can download, verify, or update the CK 64.

Yep, you need an account on Bethesda.Net, link it to your Steam account, then download and install the Bethesda.Net launcher, and then the CK.

CK must unpack a large archive of scripts in the background the first time it is run. You need to wait until that is completed, it takes several minutes.

Thanks so much guys!!!

I had to pretty much nuke my game- and redownload it, but Steam kept my saves in the cloud so I didn't loose anything. Redownloaded my mods and we're good. Thanks for telling me about the CK. I'll look into doing it the correct way now!

Glad to hear it. Some Do Gooder over on the Bethesda forums has a guide you might want to check out before you attempt to install the SE kit.
