JohnGrimm
I'm having an issue where the CK will hang, pop up the Windows "CK is not responding" thing and then crash. This only happens when the script selection window is opened after clicking Add Script for a quest. It will either cause CK to hang and crash as soon as the window opens or after loading the list of available scripts. This happens 100% of the time with both Fallout4.esm loaded and with nothing loaded. I tried looking for similar issues but they're all tied to Skyrim's CK with the solution being to extract the game's scripts because the user has set the BSA to load in the ini but failed to extract said BSA. I tried doing that with FO4, extracted all the scripts in Misc.BA2 but it had no effect. Has anyone else had this issue? I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure out what's causing this. Here's my CreationKit.ini and CreationKitPrefs.ini
kitcat81
Don`t know if it can help but make sure you have all the required folders and correct paths. The "Scripts" folder in your Data Folder, the Source folder inside the Script folder, the User folder inside the Source folder etc). Also If you have too many scripts, it can cause the CK to stuck for some time. Can be a long time, depends on the number of files in the folder and probably your computer. I don`t know what the CK is doing, but maybe it checks all scripts in the folder when opening this window. The CK works mostly fine for me without any twicking ( apart from being really very slow sometimes, i.e. it was impossible to edit any npc look without it hanging for 10 seconds after each twicking, I just gave up on that idea ). Opening any alias in any quest makes it hang for some time too. And my PC is quite good and powerful. So I don`t really know what makes it hang, but this is a usual thing for it. If you get the popping window that the CK is not responding, offering you to close the app, don`t press anything, just wait for a few minutes. I have the CK crashed a few times when opening something that "hangs" it for a time. Closing other apps that drain the PC memory can help too. Zzyxzz
Create the Quest and save/close it first, before adding the script. Then reopen the quest and attach your script. Otherwise it will crash

Otherwise it will crashthis isnt a sure thing either...when i had my issue i did this as safe step so i could save progress till then since CK crashed and all ways had to redo all the quest steps..It might also have to do with duplicating and RENAMING/creating new form before you even open it to edit...so it wont crash. Zzyxzz
I noticed this behavior the last time. I created a quest, set everything right and attached a script. Creation Kit crashed. Tried 4-5 times, everytime it crashed... then i thought, ok... before i have to recreate the quest over and over again, i created the quest, closed, saved it and then attached the script. It worked. I got curious and tried again to create and directly attach a script -> crash Thats what i learned. Really annoying... and Fallout 4 (the game) is not better... its really messy.... Really annoying... and Fallout 4 (the game) is not better... its really messy....I think that it crashes simply because we do it wrong...You cant expect the ck to attach a script to a quest that doesnt exist yet... So when creating it and closing we basically make that new form exist and the CK can now see it .
