Newb to game modding

Hi there.

I've never really done any game modding other than Galactic Civ a long time ago and that was just a text file edit.

I'd like to use some of the adult content mods and maybe the high res skin mods for Skyrim. However I don't really understand what I'm supposed to do or what software I need to use the files etc.

I have GIMP on my PC as I make myself basic avatars for an online game I play.

Any help and suggestions would be highly appreciated, especially if you can give me a very simple step by step guide to adding the mods.

Thank you.

Most mods here have instructions on how to install them. Look for a readme or other tect file in the downloaded archive, or look at the mods description for instructions.

If the mod you are trying to install doesn't have any instructions, then complain to the author in that mods comment section.

The ones I were looking at were saying to put them in a texture folder that I don't seem to have. So not sure which mod I need to put on 1st in order to use that mod etc.

I is a mod newb :teehee: so don't even know what to actually ask you lot.

This is the main one I want to use because of the other mods that branch off of it.

This is the one I'm not sure how to use

When it says put them in the texture folder, the game does have one but its kinda 'hidden' unless you make a new texture folder in a sense.

For example, I use a vampire eyes mod, when downloaded it gives me a folder called textures.

Therefore All I need to do is copy this folder to the data files for skyrim and it will instantly replace the vampire eyes with the modded eyes.

On my computer, my skyrim folder is located in program files (x86)/steam/steamapps/common/skyrim/Data

Yours may be slightly different (depending on where you installed it) but whenever you add a mod, 99% of the time it goes straight into the folder called Data as seen above, unless it says differently(for example a mod that auto installs with only a single mouse click for you)

So copy the textures folder here and it should work, IF the mod comes with an .esp or .esm file, make sure when you launch skyrim to check the 'data files' tab on the skyrim launcher, and make sure to see if the mod you have installed has a tick next to it (this is only revelent for mods that have .esp or .esm files, some mods do not use these)

I hope that helps, I think I may have made it sound more confusing than it actually is, but once you have added a mod or 2 or 350 it becomes second nature

And the construction set will be out soon, so expect a hailstorm of new mods too

Nope my file location is exactly the same.

So basically if the file isn't there I just need to make one and call it textures, and add any other sub folders I need like the "actors" one?

The mods I've downloaded just seem to be zip files.

You can create the folders, but if you just copy and paste the folder 'textures' for example, paste it straight into the data folder and it will put everything where it needs to go without having to create all the folders yourself.

zip files can be opened with a double click, just copy what is inside and put it in your data folder, but of course if theres a readme, read it first as sometimes for example some of the files may be optional and then the maker should have left clear instructions of how to handle that.

There are also .rar files and a few other formats, I think you have to right click and press extract or copy outside on those, but unless youve downloaded any in that format you dont need to worry
