devinpatterson
I really enjoyed Old World Blues, but I was a little surprised that Z-38 lightwave dynamics research was so sparse. A single valence, a Sierria Madre tie in and a couple of holograms were just about it. It's odd that there wasn't much more. It seems like a wasted opportunity when there is so much that can be done with light. I'd like to expand it via additional research projects; Greatly expanded holographic research; a holographic melee weapon, a holographic combat armor (probably just vest and helmet), new holographic enemies, possibly a holographic follower.Atomic laser and atomic holography; We actually have these-in their infancy. I thought this could be a good explanation for "hard light holo's", holograms that affect the environment physically.A greatly expanded VR room. etc. If you want to jump right in, type "COC NVDLC03SLHologramINT" (without the quotes) into your console & it will drop you in Z-38. The mod itself is pretty simple to install, just unrar it to your data directory. I havn't gotten around to making a leveled list for the protectron, so he might be difficult for mid to low characters. I know most people don't like to download a mod without pics so here is a collage; http://img708.imageshack.us/img708/1997/z38d.jpg So ideas are welcome in re: to expanding Z-38. I think it's a really rich setting for new ideas, and could be very interesting. In addition I'd appreciate mention of any bugs you might notice in the beta. I'll check in, in the morning to see if I forget anything essential to the mod (fubared some paths or whatever). Thanks. Quetzlsacatanango
I agree with you.I think I have mentioned to you before the holo-follower I have in Skunkwater Gulch. Her emitter is wearable, and uses electron charge packs, as does her holo-holo-rifle. She compares herself to a genie in a bottle (or perhaps djinn would be a better term), but her background is mysterious, even to herself. In fact until you have completed Dead Money, and tell her about your experience, she believes herself to be the only holo-person (and still seems to be, considering that the Sierra Madre holos are more like "recordings" of real people). I had thought that the Sierra Madre might be the target of her quest, but that was before OWB came out. Big MT is clearly the better goal for her... Some sort of tech allowing you to visit her in her bottle would be cool
devinpatterson
I agree with you.I think I have mentioned to you before the holo-follower I have in Skunkwater Gulch..... She compares herself to a genie in a bottle she believes herself to be the only holo-person You did mention her, but either in much less or I had a neural malfunction, because I didn't realize her backstory or that she was a real AI. I was under the impression she was more on the order of a recording of a glamorous pre-war starlet that stood out for her beauty in a fetid wasteland. I didn't realize she was anything beyond a image. It's a very interesting idea. Anything I can do to help? Be happy to add a holographic level, I'v already included a inaccessible door to a "Advanced Holographic Research" dummy cell. The hologram junk/idea is simply too appealing not to mess around with, so I wanted to leave that possibility open for future development. (or perhaps djinn would be a better term), but her background is mysterious, even to herself. In fact until you have completed Dead Money, and tell her about your experience, Kinda off topic (but if you haven't completely mapped out her personality), monstertalk had a really interesting podcast about Djinn. MonsterTalk #045 - Unbottling The Jinn. The lore and history were cool, but I think what was even more interesting is the current middle east beliefs about Djinn. They are portrayed in teh Koran, so some Muslims believe in their existence as actual "people". Some believing they may even have a little Djinn blood, or that someone they know is a Djinn living in human society etc. I didn't get the impression that it was a majority belief, but the expert on the podcast seemed to believe it was a sizable minority. Maybe akin to the number of people in the U.S. that believe in the literal existence of angels for example. Could add a interesting spin if she portrays that or even believes it. Is she a completely artificial AI, or is she some sort of "imprint"/neural copy of pre-war researcher/creator or something else entirely? I had thought that the Sierra Madre might be the target of her quest, but that was before OWB came out. Big MT is clearly the better goal for her... Some sort of tech allowing you to visit her in her bottle would be cool Or possibly the equivalent of a VR version of her bottle? It wouldn't be quite as cool as physically visiting her bottle but it'd fit right in with lore, and from the player's point of view be practically the same. It seems to me, for a convincing VR, you really only have two choices. 1. Some sort of direct connect like a neuromancer type cerebral jack or the fallout pods that feed you direct sensory data. Or 2. a holoroom type VR like the ST TNG one. If one were to go with the VR that's holographic, the Z-38 research facility seems like the most reasonable choice for that kind of research. You'v probably already seen this since you'v made your holographic companion, but from what I can tell holograms seem pretty simple. To me it looks like they just turned the textures into grayscale, reduced the opacity and attached a script to add the NVDLC03HologramFlickerEffect, immunity etc. Don't see why you couldn't add that to all her chattel/furnishings in her VR bottle......I mean if you don't mind the seizure inducing flicker effect going off all over. It'd be an interesting little setting. Edited January 21, 2012 by devinpatterson

Is she a completely artificial AI, or is she some sort of "imprint"/neural copy of pre-war researcher/creator or something else entirely? She is an imprint of a living human, not an artificial AI.The owner of her emitter is what you might call "uncannily wise" so yes, there is some middle eastern mythology involved. Or possibly the equivalent of a VR version of her bottle?Yes, VR is what I had in mind. Dunno if it will be a pod or just some goggles or something. I made her a creature so I could give her the exact properties of the Sierra Madre holograms, but yes it is not too hard to make an actor holo-looking. btw, inside her bottle, things wouldn't look holo at all... devinpatterson
Looking forward to seeing her Yes, VR is what I had in mind. Dunno if it will be a pod or just some goggles or something. Or just a cone of light (or other snazzy special effect) that emits from the top of the bottle, hitting the player in the head and bam, your in the VR?
