Ohdude
So instead of starting the game as a random poor war prisoner that wasn't even in the war,you start as a random war prisoner who wasn't in the war either.... wait? - there's something wrong here. So the guy,Sigurd is a mythological norse legend, his "story" can be found anywhere on the net,and there are runestones in sweden that describe him.Instead of starting as a random war prisoner ( lol ) who then finds out he's the dragonborn by absorbing 2d energies from a dead dragon, than starts to think like, "hey, there are sexy girls all over skyrim, and this alduin is an arse,so time to kick some dragonarse 8) " , you play as Sigurd. There are two options you can choose from,it can be from the very beginning,or it can be a sub-story that starts with a rumor you hear from people.Basically, your main goal is to find the legendary sword named Gram, and go after the dragon,Fafnir. Diggin' through the internet,I think the best story for this is,told in the Völsunga ( Volsung ) saga, where the player is member of an old nordic clan,Volsung, whose origins go back to Odin, the major nordic god and the ruler of Asgard ( * reference to Sovngarde * :D ) Here's a short version of that story ( thank you wikipedia ) : The subtitle of the book, "The Norse Epic of Sigurd the Dragon Slayer," implies that the entire book is about Sigurd even though he is seen only through about half of the tale. However, the slaying of Fafnir, the serpent-brother of Regin, is a critical point in this epic. This is the decision that Sigurd makes in his reach for a glorious life full of fame. When Regin makes a sword for Sigurd that lives up to his standards, he requests that Sigurd fulfill a vow and kill Fafnir, who is hiding treasure. After avenging his father and other kinsmen, Sigurd agrees to attempt to kill the dragon. They arrive at the spot where Fafnir guards the treasure and Sigurd delivers a fatal blow to the dragon. Before Fafnir dies, they have an important conversation that reveals the truth to Sigurd about the treasure. With this enlightenment, Sigurd takes a taste of the blood of the dragon and can hear the birds speaking of the two men. "There sits, Sigurd, roasting Fafnir's heart. Better he should eat it himself."..."There lies Regin, who wants to betray the one who trusts him."..."He should strike Regin's head off; then he alone would control the huge store of gold." With this advice and the other words from the birds, Sigurd drew his sword and cut off Regin's head and took all the gold from the treasure that Fafnir had previously guarded. Your first goal would be crawling through dungeons and dungeons ( user-created for more variety,if possible,'cause all vanilla ruins are the same ) to find the legendary sword, then, you agree to slay the Dragon, and go to kill him, before he dies he reveals important things to you,and the story ends with you killing Regin,a trusted person in your life. THEN YOU GET DA GOLDZ.There is dungeon crawling,a legendary badass sword,a dragon, and decapitating people,so I like it..plus it has similarities to Skyrim's story. The sword is crafted by a master blacksmith in the tales, but, you can't just go to Eorlund and say " Yo dawg, make me a good sword, will ya? " and then get it.Breaks all the immersion :O I have no advanced modding knowledge, just a bit of this, and a bit of that, and I'm trying to learn 3d modelling, but this is way too hard for me to accomplish at the moment, but I believe this can easily be done by a group of experienced people using the Creation Kit.
Anwelyn
I can't believe no one has thought of this before now! Actually, I was hoping I would be the first, but hey, second (as far as my searching through the forums goes) isn't bad  I would love for Sigurd the Volsung and his story to be a part of Skyrim. I mean, he's basically the greatest of the dragon slayers of the world's myths, right (I'm Swedish by heritage so I can be biased)? I did my college senior project on William Morris' translation and his heroic verse interpretation of the Volsunga Saga (he was the first to translate it into English). You can read both versions here http://morrisedition.lib.uiowa.edu/ for free. There's some awesome rhyming couplets that would make great songs for Skyrim as well. My thought was this: make the story of Sigurd into the alternate start of Skyrim, except have it take place on Earth and such like in the saga - Iceland and Germany (a new island somewhere in the sea outside of Skyrim? I'm not a modder so I don't know how this would work - a small version of Iceland would be easiest to make believable, as the sea is a natural boundary). I guess you could be a preset character as Sigurd? Not sure how that would work. Then from there you go through the saga more like an action adventure game, maybe - I personally wouldn't want the story to change too much, but I realize it could be too rigid for an RPG. Oh well this is only an idea right? Anyway, you, as Sigurd, would go through the whole saga up to the point of your betrayal by the sons of Gjuki, and of course, if you know the story, Sigurd is killed because of his version of Achilles' heel (a spot on his back not touched by Fafnir's blood). After you die, you arrive in Valhalla/Sovngard - but Odin/Shor/whichever Nord god is closest to Odin (in my playing of Skyrim I haven't yet figured out if the Nord gods are different from the Aedra, or just different appearances/names for them). This Allfather figure tells you he is sending you back to the mortal body and says other metaphysical/philosophical talk, then you either find yourself as the war-prisoner at the vanilla start of Skyrim or some other lore-friendly starting point. Oh, and it is just your "essence" or whatnot, so it is totally cool if you decide to come back as a female and not be human even (the story of Sigurd could be reworked so that the Sigurd-character would be female and you wouldn't be forced to play as Sigurd the guy at the start of this hypothetical modquest, I suppose is another option, but to me it sounds like more work...) Then, in your course of being the Dragonborn in Skyrim, perhaps your past life as Sigurd would slowly reawaken? There could be quests to find Gram, maybe something like Nerevarine's quest to reclaim True Flame (if you've played Morrowind!) and perhaps then integrate it with the horse Frost being the seed of Sigurd's horse Grani/Greyfell, perhaps Brynhild the Valkyrie (or the male version, if the mod ends up with a female version of Sigurd) is sent to Skyrim as well as a companion/love interest for you as a Sigurd-reincarnated-as-Dragonborn stud guy/girl?? Oh! And the ability to bathe in dragon's blood and get strength/defense boosts and eat dragon hearts and learn the language of animals and stuff. That would be cool. I have even less modding experience than you, Ohdude, so I guess we need to do some sort of modding outreach program to get this off the ground  Edited March 2, 2013 by Anwelyn
