akhen
So, since My Type of Hair has released the ponytail hair, I've been trying to retexture it. Without the CK, the best I could come up with, was to modify the textures, start up Skyrim and see the results for myself in-game. After a bit of trial and error, this is the result so far: http://skyrimnexus.com/imageshare/image.php?id=32508 As you can see, not entirely what I was aiming for. As per suggestion, I've tried using Nifskope to no avail - it seems it can't find the textures for the hair mesh (and yes, I've looked through the common fixes section and tried the whole directory/path thing). Any help would be appreciated.
throttlekitty
Setting the texture path in NifSkope should work for you. There were a few older versions of NifSkope that won't render them for Skyrim nifs. RC5 is current right now.Secondly, when setting the path, be sure to select the \Skyrim\data\ folder, not \Skyrim\data\textures\ Hard to say why you're getting the black faces, it could be many issues in the model or textures. Does the original have this problem?

Does the original have this problem? I *have* tried using different directories. You're welcome to go ahead and try - even the RC5 build doesn't seem to support it. Having read a few of the common problems, it seems as though it refuses to load the textures if they're not a part of the .nif file itself. Also, the issue is not "black faces" - the face works just fine - it's the texture of the hair that's driving me nuts. Have you seen the image? edit: through trial and error, I believe the issue is that the "unwanted" dark part of the texture is using the same source as the front - plainly, if I try to remove the dark texture on the ponytail, it will inevitably affect other parts of the hair that are just fine. If that makes any sense? Edited January 25, 2012 by akhen
throttlekitty
Yes, and I see black polygon faces in the ponytail, sorry if the terminology is confusing.Looking again, I see that the tips of the larger ponytail and maybe the bangs shapes are black towards the end. Is this intentional in your retexture? If so, that upper ponytail section may be uv mapped differently than the rest, I see now that it fades to pink a bit towards its base. Chances are good the model needs a bit of fixing to better suit what you're wanting to accomplish. So, for NifSkope, assuming the textures exist in the proper locations, and NifSkope is configured to find them, there shouldn't be issue with loading them. It can also be configured to read from multiple locations, which I typically do in my setups, one for the game folder, and one for my projects folder.http://niftools.sourceforge.net/wiki/NifSkope/Setting_the_Texture_Search_Path Edited January 25, 2012 by throttlekitty
akhen
Actually, the only black part of the hair which I want removed, is the one I drew a giant red arrow towards. I guess I should be more obvious. The guide you linked me was the I one used for reference earlier, so I'm not sure what else to try.
throttlekitty
Ah, that's more helpful, but I'm afraid this is a job for the model, not the texture. You could edit the alpha channel, and paint black over this section, making it transparent. but chances are good that this area of the texture is non-unique, and you'll probably make other parts of the model disappear. May as well give it a whirl and see what happens. For me, I have the Skyrim installed to:D:\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrimSo in NifSkope, in Render>Settings, I have:D:\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim\DataAnd File>Resource Files, I have:D:\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim\Data\Skyrim - Textures.bsa

And you guessed right - just tried to make the black spot disappear, but it affects other parts, too. So I guess I'll have to find someone who's good with models, because I sure as hell am not.
