Evilllamas
Hi I've been trying to make Morrowind look nicer, with texture upgrades.I'v downloaded Darknut's weapons, armor and creature's packs- however, the only one that works is the creatures pack! I install them exactly as described [Morrowind/ data files/ textures] and all I'v noticed, is that creatures look nicer- no armor or weapon upgrades, it's driving me round the bend as I have no idea what the problem is!I'm using a clean install of Morrowind GOTY edition, not on steam. Some are saying I need to use a date changer, but I'm not certain that's true, since the creature texture replacements work fine! Any ideas would be appreciated!
XavierJamesIce
I bump this, its not working for me either, though I remember a long time ago when I had all the folders in the texture folder installed from the CS disc, I could overwrite the textures and it worked... but I'm lost. hollaajith
Darknut's texture replacers just increases resolution and does not modify them. So it might look like its modified nothing.
Drullo321
You have to pay attention to the folder structure. For example DNWeaponsComplete->Textures contain a 512 and 1024 version. If you only copy the default texture folder (with the 512 and 1024 folder within) then it is obvious that it wont work. Same goes with his armor pack iirc contains a subfolder for every armor so you have to manually copy/paste textures and meshes (if there are) to your meshes and texture folder. shinytentacool
I'm bumping this cause I have the same problem. If someone could help... Yes you pick either the 512 files or the 1024 and you put them in the textures folder. I've done that but it still didn't change anything. It's still using original textures. Darknut's texture replacers just increases resolution and does not modify them. So it might look like its modified nothing. No, there are some obvious differences especially if you look at w_dagger_dragon I'm thinking of making my own esp to change these textures (Darknut's mods come with no esp) but I don't know how to do this.... Thing is, the textures are in the textures folder but for some reason the game is still loading the morrowind.bsa textures.... So I think making an esp would definitely force the game to load Darknut's textures instead.... does someone have a better idea?
shinytentacool
I just went to hell and BACK trying to get this working. But I did it. But it was very very complicated. I'm not sure I can really explain it here, but I'll try The game doesn't load Darknut's textures. I don't know why, I think that's just how it is. You need the corresponding mesh in the meshes/w folder for its textures to load. But Darknut's zip file only has textures on it mostly. I guess Darknut just assumed everyone would have all the weapon meshes in meshes/w instead of just having an empty folder (like me). Or maybe that's not it at all. I really don't know. Anyway what I did was I used BSA Unpacker to extract the weapon meshes and put them in the meshes folder. When you use NifSkope to look at the meshes you see the pathname for the textures is just for example "tx_w_dagger_blade.bmp". this isn't an actual pathname, so the textures won't load. you need a real pathname, like "c:\program files\... \tx_w_dagger_blade.bmp", for example. so if you use NifSkope you can change the pathnames, save and THEN Darknut's textures will load. But from what I understand you'd have to do this ONE by ONE, and there's 300+ meshes. It would take forever..... So what I did was even more complicated. This is gonna be hard to explain. I used Notepad++ to edit the .nif files (the meshes) as if they were text. You need Notepad++ (regular Notepad doesn't work and neither does Word). I opened all 300 meshes with it to change the pathnames. Now here it gets really dumb. You can edit the pathnames using Notepad++ but here's the thing: the files are encrypted so you can't just add stuff. For example you can't change "orange.bmp" to "c:\program files\orange.bmp". It won't work. "orange.bmp" has 10 letters(the dot counts too) so that's what you have to work with. if you change "orange.bmp" to "c:\ora.bmp" it WILL work. It's still the same number of letters. And that way it will load. So basically I had to change all the texture filenames too. You open all the meshes in Notepad++ and use the Replace function. All the weapon textures start with TX_W_ so I got rid of _w_.Replace "tx_w_" with "c:\tx" for ALL opened files. Save ALL and exit. You can see what this means. It means you need to have the textures in c:\ . No folder, no nothing. Just c:\ Still here? Ok good cause we're not done yet. Now you have to do the textures. In the Darknut zip they're in dds format but I used DDS Converter http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/8698/?to change them to BMP. I don't know if you need to do this, maybe DDS works too but I still haven't tried it. You also need to extract some other textures that Darknut didn't do. Go to BSA Unpacker and unpack all the weapon textures and put them in your Darknut textures folder. When it asks you to replace the already exisiting files, say NO. (so it only adds the missing textures). When it's done, convert those to BMP too. Change all the texture filenames so that they don't have the "_w_" anymore. What I did was create a batch file with the dir function so I got all the names in a text file, and then used Notepad++ to remove all the _w_. Then made a batch file to rename all the textures. Still reading? Wow you're pretty good. okay we're almost done. Make sure the meshes are in the meshes/w folder and the textures in c:\ ( just c:\ ) (no folder, sorry) And it's done. Run the game and it will have all Darknut weapon textures. Since you read ALL of my post (or did you?) here's a link to all the files instead of having to do all this crap (haha) :*** https://www.dropbox.com/s/lwvhvaemy3k9ff3/DarknutWeaponsFix.rar *** Instructions:1) Download files2) Meshes go in the meshes/w folder and textures go in C:\ (JUST C:\)3) Enjoy I'm really sorry for this long post but hopefully it might help someone. Oh also, this is just for weapons. Don't ask me to do this again for armor/creatures... Edited July 30, 2013 by shinytentacool
